Default Help: 1987-89 light bar install

I'm wanting to put a light bar in my 88 Saleen convertible. I have one from the mid 90's that came from Saleen.

The majority of the stuff I've read oune says I have to change my rear interior 1/4 trim to 90-93 panels. If that's then no big deal. BUT then I read somewhere else that when you so that you have to change to 90-93 seat belts if you change the 1/4 trim....THEN somewhere else said you have to use the 90-93 rear power window switch with the 90-93 1/4 trim.....THEN on top of that you thenhave to convert (which it didn't elaborate or say how) your power window harness to work with the 90-93 rear power window switch.....

Then lastly I found one person that sam aid they were able to get their light bar to mount fine using their 87-89 1/4 panels but due to the location of the seat belts in the 87-89 1/4 panel trim the belts don't retract properly.....so that's not going to work either.

Anybody put a light bar in an 87-89 convertible? I think they look so good when the top is down but it's starting to sound like it may be a major hassle to put in my car. You would thik surely it could be done without so much modifications!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

So theyre saying that you have to change the seatbelts to newer ones???
Why, I doubt that there is that much difference between those years.
None of that makes any sense to me.

Supposedly from what I read online when they changed the interior panels in 89 it also changed the seat belt location & that the 89-93 belts have to be used with the 89-93 panels due to how/where they mount. This may not be correct but their is virtually no literature online of someone putting a light bar in pre-90 cars, and if they did they changed the panels (and possibly the belts)

The light bars are only for 89 up cars. If you notice in the pics above the belt is coming out from under the bar....and evidentially that causes issues with it working & especially retracting properly.....

And some light bars, due to the way the metal par of the bar is made that bolts to the car behind the panels, will not allow you to use the sear belts at all unless you swap everything over to the later style

This is what I've gathered from the limited info out on the net

Who makes this light bar?? I am pretty sure Classic Design Concepts made them for the fox bodies at one time. I don't know though what years they were made to fit.

The only difference I can think of (seat belt wise) is when rear shoulder belts became standard for the back seat. I'm just not sure what year that happened? That might change the mounting location?

The rear quarter trim changed in 1990 as well as the rear seat cushion. The seat belt buckles pop through the seat bottom from 1990-1993. I also believe 1990 was the last year for rear power window switches.

So.....to answer the speculation, does that mean the seat belts would have go be changed? I've also heard when you change the rear switches they will I longer roll down if you keep the 87-89 switches in the front....that their not compatable and the front switches have to be changed when you change the rear switches....

Some food for thought on this subject that I found online.....

"1990-1993 rear ¼ trim panels will not work unless you convert to 1990-1993 front seat belts AND convert your power window harness to work with the 90-93 rear power window switch"

"1990 Front seat belts will mount on your 1979-1989 Fox Body mustang, however 1991-1993 Front seat belts have different mounting tabs, and will not work on 1979-1989 mustangs without cutting new slots for the mounting tabs."

" 1990-1993 mustangs have rear shoulder harness seat belts, and will not directly bolt into a 1979-1989 mustang. If 1990-1993 rear seat belts are used on 79-89 foxes, then the 90-93 rear seat needs to be used, and the seat mounting brackets will need to be welded onto the floor pan, as well as modifications for mounting the seat belts."

"If you plan on using 1990 Front seat belt retractors with a 79-89 Mustang, the 90 seat belt retractors don't have that cable that plugs into the door jam. If you use 1990 front seat belts, you will have a hole in your door jam. To fix this, you can get a rubber plug to plug up the hole."

SO AS YOU CAN SEE, it appears there ALOT more to this than meets the eye.....

Question

I have seen one done in the past. I believe last post is correct with the exception of the need to change seat. You just clip later seat belt into earlier seat belt receiver and don't need to change seat.

It sounds like s lot of work, but those light bars do look amazing. Personally I wouldn't want a vert without one, but I wouldn't cut up an original Saleen to install one. Tough decision...

I agree with both of those statements.

Default Light Bar

I agree with the statements above. I wouldn't cut my convertible up for one either but Saleen already did so I just have to deal with it.
