Q: Refinishing ARE 5 spoke wheels?

The original set of ARE wheels were chromed and then spokes repainted by the original owner on my 1989 convertible. After spending 6 years on the east coast, the chrome is bubbling off so they need to be stripped, rechromed and the spokes repainted in grey/silver. Does anyone have a vendor they have used and can recommend to do this? I would prefer someone in Nevada, California, Utah or Arizona if possible to keep the shipping costs a little more reasonable but am open on any recommendations.

Over the years I've sent a bunch of wheels to California chrome wheels.

They are known (or at least were) as one of the best.

Not cheap to have chrome removed, apparently there is a lot of EPA rules with recovering the chromium.

I had a set of ARE 5 stars, i'm pretty sure the outer lip was polished not chromed.
I'll take polished over chrome any day.

The shipping cost will be the cheapest part of the total cost no matter who rechromes them. So you might as well find a highly recommended place.
Cross the border to Mexico if you dare and it will probably only cost half as much

Thanks for the information. I will look into getting the tires off of them and getting them to them. I thought the lips were polished also when I owned the car the first time but I they are peeling which tells me they were chromed at some point. Maybe I can get the chrome stripped off and have them polished. The spokes already appear to be polished so not sure why the lips are peeling.
