Q: Correct Silver for Stern Wheels?
I have a set of 3 piece Sterns I'm wanting to restore. I am a painter for a living so this will be an easy task, HOWEVER my sterns have been previously powdercoated silver (prior to me getting them) and I'm not sure how accurate that is to what would have came on the Sterns new. If my wheels were all original or I had access to an unrestored set I could get it dead on, but unfortunately I have nothing to go by.
I plan to base coat/clear coat them using PPG. I have painted wheels before & it holds up great. There are a million different silvers I could use, that would look great.....the silver on a new Ferrari looks good, like the metallics in it, the silver used on Ford truck/Ford lightning's is a nice coarse silver...but my initial goal is not what I think looks good/cool, but rather what's the closest to the original silver, that's what I'd prefer. If I can't figure that out then I'll go to plan B which will be picking out a silver I think would look nice.
Is anyone familiar with a "very accurate to original" silver?
If anyone has examples/pics of wheels they have restored along with what color they used that would be great! I would dare to say the silver in the Sterns is the same/comprable to the silver that was used on Speedlines....at least they looks the same to me...
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
