Default Looking for info? - 89-0704 (Tropical Yellow)

I own 89-704 (tropical yellow convt.). I was told years ago that two other vehicles very similar to my were produced. Last I heard one was supposedly somewhere in the Noethwest - Oregon or Washington state. Has anyone seen one of these anywhere? Mine is located in Kansas. Its rarely seen asdoes nto leave the garage very often. Would very much appreciate any help with this. Thanks

Welcome to the Saleen Forums!

Yes, there was a Tropical Yellow Saleen in the Northwest until August of 2010. It had been a one-family car, and the original owner's daughter sold it because she was leaving the country and moving overseas.

I believe it headed Eastbound.

The one in last summer in Portland was 88-11. I think I have some pics stored at work... It sold last summer and moved to New York.

There was also an 89-2?? talked about last year - I believe it was in PA.

CharlieB - we need to talk - I live about 10 miles north of you!

*EDIT * - 89-209 is the yellow hatch - it IS in PA

According to Patti's book:
88 - 2 yellow convertibles
89 - 1 yellow hatchback and 3 yellow convertibles
All had beige interiors.

Looking through my "stuff."

88-0011 was offered for sale in the July 1995 issue of Ford Market Place with 22,000 miles on the odometer.

I'm searching because I do believe I have listings for at least one of the 1989 convertibles.

As a side note: The sand beige interior was the standard color offered with the pale yellow from 1987-89. I do believe one might have had the ablity to order Ford leather with the yellow... doing away with the sand beige.

I see yours (89-0704) was offered for sale in June 1997 with 24,000 miles for $21,500.

Default From the Yellow Mustang Registry...

Charles - there are three other 89 Yellow Saleens listed on YMR's site besides yours. I'm not for sure if they were yellow to begin with.

That's interesting that 3 of the 4 are within a couple 100 miles, and the 4th isn't THAT far away (Houston TX area)

Dave,

Thanks for the response to my inquiry regarding other tropical yellow convertibles.

I especially wanted to thank you for having posted the picture. It has so very long ago that I happened upon the last day of the MCA meet held in Overland Park that I had pretty much forgotten the day. However, after having seen your reply, especially with the photos, I do recall the day. In addition to the Fox body, the SN95 red convertible/roadster that appears in the photos was also yours, wasn't it?. My guess you still have both.

My car hasn't changed much since you last saw it. Other than having a few more miles on it (I think it has about 32K right now) the only thing that is different is the battery. Finally had to replace it last summer. Car is still very much stock and virtually all original, except for tires, fluids, filters, and battery. Still has all factory hoses, fittings, labels, etc. I constantly resist the temptation to 'tweak' things, but so far I've not given in to the idea of having a car that performs at a level that matches more closely the image it suggests. To say the least, factory 5.0's from this era were anything but performers. Sort of sad that the average grocery getter coming off the assembly line today will literally smoke the doors off such a great looking car. The handling is pretty far, but not exceptional by today's standards - especially when factoring in ride quality and comfort. Those two qualities simply do not apply to my car. There is no way I would want to drive it more than a few hours at a time.

Anyway, thanks again. Maybe we will meet up again someday.

Charlie

No problem Charlie! Glad to read your history with 89-0704 and how you're enjoying ownership.

We have not met before as I was not attending the Overland Park event.

Looking forward to making your acquaintance in the future!

Charlie,

If you want any more info other than what is offered in the Saleen registry book, I have a completed data sheet on that yellow vert from the original owner... just shoot me an email..
