Default 99-201 Saleen Build Thread

Well guys unfortunately the time has come for me to replace my motor because a few days after it was tuned the motor blew out. I figured one of my spark plugs had prob went out but when I went to change the last two which were cylinder 3 and 4 I noticed that the spark plug in cylinder 4 had been melted. I went ahead and changed the plugs and tried driving it around but it still blew out smoke like crazy so the only thing left to do qa a compression test. I went ahead and did that and there was ZERO compression in cylinder 4. :/ Well now that I know I blew the motor I guess it's time to get a new one ;)

Plans for the car are:
-MMR 1000 4.75 Stroker Shortblock rated at 1000rwhp
-Trickflow Twisted Wedge 44cc Heads
-Comp XE278AH Stage 3 Blower/Niteous Cams
-D&D T-56 6 Speed Tranny
-AJE Tublar K-Member, A-Arms, Spring Perches, and Motor Mounts

Here's a pic of my spark plugs.

Wow! Sorry to hear about the motor but kinda nice you're getting a new mod motor with bells and whistles.

May need to borrow your knowledge on my car

Well last week I had a little time and was able to bring it to my shop to start taking the car apart. Here are a few pics of the car being taken apart.

Thanks!

Oh, by the way, according to your last dyno run, your A/F looks a little off. Would you agree? Let me know. I want to get mine just right and not too rich.

Yes I agree, I didn't pay attention to that till a few of my friends started to point that out. Who will you be taking your car to get tuned with?

HP Motorsports and LG Motorsports have been recommended to me by other Saleen owners.

More than likely HPP Motorsports which is located in Lewisville (DFW area).

The car is currently running really rich and feels like more power is getting to the ground than the Shelby I had. I want a powerful tune without the hot rod feel....something more conservative like my previous S281 or Shelby. Still learning about tunes so I'm just hoping that can be done with the mods I have.

Here are some new pics from earlier this week. I spoke to mmr and they are now assembling my block so I should have it sometime next week. With that being said I started to pull out the motor to be ready for when the new one comes in. :)

And the actual build finally starts. :) Here is all my stuff at Auto Adrenaline waiting to get assembled.

Here the head gaskets and the ARP head studs are going on.

I had the Manley Pistons notched that way the valves won't hit the piston since I am running Stage 3 Comp Cams.

I had the timing cover powder coated gun metal to give the engine bay a nice clean look. I also went ahead and cleaned up my crank pulley a bit and sprayed it flat black since it was all rusted up.

Stopped by the shop this morning to drop off my valve covers that I had painted gloss black and snapped a few pics of the heads on the block while I was there.
Here's pics of the long block.

Here's a picture of the valve cover.

Get those fuel lines off the floor!!

Motor is looking great Jorge. I'm checking everyday now to watch your progress.
The feel of a balanced motor, compared to stock is simply the best. You won't believe how smooth it will be at higher rpm's!

Here's some pics of the progress. I put the k-member together so it would be ready for the motor as soon as i get it back.

I stopped by my builder today to check out the motor an it's finally done. I realized after I put it together that I should have went ahead and upgraded my valve springs to some 125lb ones since my trickflows came with the standard 90lb springs. I went ahead and ordered them this evening so everything will be coming back off for the install of those. Lol

Also my Aeromotive fuel rails came in. In the pic I was just test fitting them to make sure they would clear the blower. I plan on powder coating them silver.

Talking Nice!!

Jorge,

Remember the progress of my motor at that stage. Close but much more to do. The rails will look very custom silver, good choice.

Did MMR talk to you about the break in period, how much rpm and choice of oil to use during those periods?? Sucks!

Keep up the good work, and thanks for the killer photo's!!

Made progress this week, Monday I went ahead and put the AJE suspension kit together and on the car that way it would be ready for the motor as soon as it got done. I was able to mount it all on the car and I can now roll the car in and out of the shop. That means I'll be giving it a good wash since its been a while since her last one. Lol

Tuesday afternoon I managed to pull the blower off the lower intake so I could send the lower intake to get powdercoated. I will be going with the same color as the timing cover which was like a gun metal/silver color.

Today after work I stopped by Auto Adrenaline to check on the status of my motor and it is finally done. I snapped some pics and will be picking it up tomorrow morning.

I went and picked up my motor so I could bring it back to my shop to get everything ready to put the motor in the car.
Here are a few pics of the motor with all the pulleys mounted on it.

Here are the before and after pics of the lower intake. I powder coated it the same color as my timing cover.

Here is everything mounted back on the lower intake. As you can see the fuel rails were also powder coated black to match my valve covers.

I pulled the trigger and decided to paint the engine bay since the motor is still out so Saturday my painter will be coming to do the job. :)
Here is a pic of the engine bay with all the harnesses still in it.

Here is the engine bay with most of the harnesses out, I still need to clean it up and remove a few other things.

Yesterday I pulled the car out and washed it since it had a huge layer of dust on it. Yes it does look like a 4x4 I know but the motor and tranny still need to be put in. Lol

This morning I towed it to Auto Adrenaline so that the could go ahead and install my fuel system. :)

George,

Need sunglasses looking at the K-member with all that light showing from under the car! Sweet!!

That really makes the engine compartment pop.

Thats also one thing I would love to do to my car.

Keep the pictures coming.

Last night after work I decided to drop by Auto Adrenaline and check on the progress of the car.

Unfortunately I had to go pick the car up because they didnt have it ready in time so I could bring it back to my shop and my painter could paint the engine bay. I picked the car up on monday and brought her back to my shop, I power washed the engine bay and I think I am just going to go ahead and drop the motor in with the engine bay being the way it is now. I really just want to see the car up and running now. The engine bay inst that bad anyways but I just thought I would go ahead and paint it now that its easier with the motor out.

There was a delay on the project since I took a week vacation off of work but here is some progress that I have made since I made it back.

Spec Stage 3+ clutch and pressure plate installed along with a Spec Aluminum flywheel.

T-56 is finally bolted on!

Here the ac compressor, power steering pump, starter, and oil cooler were mounted. I also mounted the sway bar.

Here's a better pic.

Exhaust is now bolted on and ready to go. Just need to finish connecting the t-56 harness.

Also worked on the engine bay a bit and mounted the coolant tanks.
