Default Q: Tire size and brand? - 2002 Extreme

Hey guys about to purchase new tires for my 02 extreme. It came with the 265/35/18's on the front 18 by 9 rims and 295/35/18's on the 18 by 10 rear rims. I wanted to move to a 305 tire but they are all street slicks. So sticking with 295 rear. But still thinking of going up to a 275/35 for the front. They so that is a size still approved for a 9"wide rim. So figured as much tire to the street as possible will only improve handling??

So has anyone used the 275/35 front 295/35 rear setup? Any issue with rubbing on inner fenders or anywhere else at full steering lockout in either direction? Any other issues possible?

Also narrowed my selection down to the continental extreme contact dw's. Very good price and here pretty good reviews on them. Any other suggestions on what you guys like? Thanks

The continental has a 540 tread wear rating if you want a highway tires for mileage. The Michelin super sport or BFGoodrich G-Force Rival have a 200 tread wear and would be better for performance. Tire rack has a close out on the Rivals and for the set is only $50 more.

I've noticed some cobra guys going to a 275 up front with a 18x 9 inch rim. I think 265 is wide enough for the front for these cars...but if you are on the track often, then yes a 275 shouldn't hurt provided you don't go beyond a 35 series...but for street driving a 265 is your best bet. At 275 you are likely to bump a little against the front sway bar and inner fender well. I try not to go left or right completely so if you do the same you can probably get away with a 275. The wider your tires up front the more strain you put on the steering parts etc. For your traditional driving, in and out of parking lots I'd just stick with a 265. As for the rear I too am interested in moving up to a 305 but it would have to be a street tire if one even exists.

I was very happy with Nitto Invo in 255/35 and 265/35. If they make a 295/35 for your rears, I'd recommend them.

What color Extreme do you have, if you don't mind me asking?

The car is torch red with black top, chrome rims, and black graphics. I think it's the only one with the black graphics.

Another reason was thinking of going with the 275 is because it's a slightly taller tire and the front would be ever so slightly raised. I bottom out on everything so any little bit would help. Plus it would be less of a difference between front and rear ride height. But i don't want clearance issues either.

They make a 295/35/18 and I've run them for a few years. Great tire.

+1 on the Michelin Pilot Super Sport... Great all around tire... Can autocross with them and still have a great Street tire.

Thanks guys. I stayed with the factory sizes and went with the continentals. Good reviews, good price, and I like the tread design. Hopefully I like the tires! Lol
