So let's start out by what I am toying around with. The speedster went in for the 40hp upgrade and the dealer had an E sitting there. Since I have purchased 2 Saleen's and a King Ranch from them the dealer let me take it for a "Test Drive". All I can say is Holy #@!$ is that car awsome

My pocket book does not allow me (nor does my wife) to go for the third Saleen. But I do have enough to and some changes.

So after the upgrade (like any natural thing) I am now finding myself wanting more. My car currenly has the gear ration at 3.55:1. I know that is standard and 3.73:1 is the upgrade for the 3V and SC models but my question is has anyone installed 4:10's in theirs and:

1) Besides installing the gears what else do you need to do to the car?

2) What are the RPM's at during crusing speed with the 4.10's?
- Currently at 1600 RPMS at 60Mph with the 3.55's in 5th.

3) Being that it is SC vert did Saleen do anything to the body of the E's for th eadded torque?

My first car had 3.73:1 in it so I know the feeling of the car and the torque that will provide I am looking for your opinion on 3:73's or 4:10's

i keep pondering the same question 3.73 or 4.10

i just got mine back from its recent upgrade from JDM

and i gotta say, if you liked the 40hp saleen upgrade

the JDM kit is AMAZING, its like driving a completely different car again

but now i think i need the gear change

My 06 SC281 was optioned with the Mai-grip rear which, I believe, came with 4.10 gears.

In fifth at 1500rpm I will be seeing 70mph.

On the track, I am still learning the art of drag racing but have got the car down to 13.02 secs 1/4 mile time. but this is with a 60ft time of just over 2 secs. I know the car is well capable of low 12's as I have the JDM stage 2 kit plus Bassani X pipe.
The dyno readout read 473rwhp with 503rw torque.

Got the data from Saleen

3:55's - 1600 rpm - 60mph

3:73's - 2100 rpm - 60mph

4:10's - 2400 rpm - 60mph

I am opting for the 3:73's. I have experience with them with my last Saleen and IMO, I feel that when the car is at higher speeds there will be too much load with 4:10's.

I want more torque but I am not looking for a 1/4 mile car.

We put 4.10 gears in ours and it is great!

Is it a 5 speed as well? What are the RPM's running at.

60mph -

65mph -

70mph -

What else did you need to do when you installed them?

I haven't really paid attention to RPM vs MPH. We had the local Ford dealer put the gears in for us and I just told them to do whatever was needed for the install.

You can feel a night and day difference with the gears. We tried adding long tubes, h pipe high flow cats, with JDM tune and pulley, and cold air intake. All of that together did not make the feel of the car better the way the gears did.

Also the people who put our pulley in I guess left the bolts a little loose and the bolts sheered off. We put the stock pulley back on and now I am going to find someone else to tune it.

Our car started off life as a 465hp SC281 Speedster.

07-105 - Before I change my order, are you absolutely sure that you have 4:10's. The 3:73's that I had in my previous car ran at 2150 at 70. I am not doubting you I just want to be absoultly positive before I switch it over

Unless Grand Prairie Ford screwed up. I wasn't back there to see the stamp on it. It is a 5 spd car. Check with Glenn at GP Ford -- 972-859-5400 he is their aftermarket parts guy.

Ok they did not reprogram the computer as I was told. At 70mph in 5th gear the car is at 2500rpms with the 4.10 gears.

Bambusero,

I do want to welcome you to the Saleen Forums at SOEC!

I can tell you that standard equipment on an '07 E car is as you describe, but except for hoping to increase fuel economy, I don't think I'd consider a gear change. You'd certainly have to have the computer re-programmed for shift points, or at least for speedo calibration.

I beleave it came with 4.10 and six speed.

i have found that with the 4:10s i would prfer to start in 1st gear, i've tried starting out in 2nd for the first while but i had to wind up the rpms to get moving.

are you expieriencing any probs? if not, the car i feel was designed with them in mind for the torque and horsepower balance in mind. keep in mind that i have down shifted @75 into fourth, accelerated, upshifted to 5th and final shift was made into 6th at around 125 mph, at that point the cars rpms dropped and it was a steady fast climb to 148 mph which the car achieved easily enough and i had to slow down because i was running out of good clear road at that point. My E-Car has the same as yours, runs great, enjoy it! (just keep in mind the break in period and the change to synthetic@500miles)

ps-what color, style, got any pics?

Thanks for the advice. I really enjoy the car. have you experienced popping off at first gear? maybe Im not used to this tranny. it is soft going in gear. I also have a
08 Roush 427R and you really feel it goin in at all gears. Any ways, my Saleen is
silver #49. I will be posting pictures soon. Greetings!

A friend of mine has a Ring Brothers S197 S/C with a 5 speed and 4:10 rear-end. Ifs F'ing scary to drive....in fact it takes a little while use to get use to getting the car rolling. and when you do your pulling gears so fast...your in 5th before you know it. Another friend has 3:91's in his California Special (whipple charger)with a Auto Trans. This car is a attention getter also. Both of these cars are a handful, in fact I would love to see them go up against each other. I would think though that the 3:91 car might beat the 4:10 geared car just because it shifts a lot faster. My personal opinion is to just go with the 3:73.. and be happy. anything after that gets to be a challenge to drive. I cant say for you but I know I didn't buy my car to have to just "work" to drive" it..If you wanted straight line fast....should have just waited for the Shelbys.Anyways let us know what you do. Bambusero, yes the 06 did come with 4:10 and a six speed but with 4:10's you almost need to have the six speed just to get the motor to "relax" if your doing any highway driving

Keep Cruis'in.....F the price of gas
