From the Mustang Club of America website...

"Mustangs... Back at Barber! The Mustang 45th Anniversary, sponsored by FORD, and supported by the Mustang Club of America, will be at Barber Motorsports Park in Leeds, Alabama just outside Birmingham, Alabama. Event dates are confirmed as Thursday through Sunday April 16, 7, 18, and 19. Registration and more information can be found at http://www.mustangevents.org/ (http://www.mustangevents.org/MCA.cfm?home)

These days and dates coincide perfectly with the original introduction of the Mustang in 1964. The car was first unveiled (to the general public) on Friday afternoon/evening, April 17th, 1964. On Saturday, April 18th, 1964 pretty much every attendee at the New York World's Fair saw and fell head over heels for the Mustang. And, to top off the week-end, the Mustang was introduced to the rest of the world on the three (3) major television networks.

Did you all catch the 'three major networks' part. Boy, how times have changed. Thank goodness we still have our Mustangs! And, if you feel a little tingle as you read this, that excitement from 1964 is still with us today. Start making plans to make you way to the Mustang's 45th birthday celebration. You might even stop by a FORD dealership and thank them for the continuation of the Mustang."

Well I have worked out it is 10394 Miles from <st1:city w:st="on">Adelaide</st1:city> <st1:country-region w:st="on">Australia</st1:country-region> to <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Birmingham</st1:city> <st1:state w:st="on">Alabama</st1:state></st1:place>. That is flying <st1:city w:st="on">Adelaide</st1:city> to <st1:city w:st="on">Sydney</st1:city> 723 Miles, Sydney to <st1:city w:st="on">Los Angeles</st1:city> 7508 Miles, then driving approx 2163 Miles to <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Birmingham</st1:place></st1:city>.

Brenda & I have booked our flights, booked the tickets to the 45th Anniversary Dinner & Car show and booked our motel room, now we just have to wait 128 days to the 16th April.

We were coming to the USA next year any way to explore more of the South East, Florida, Louisiana, Georgia & Alabama what better way than to take in a Mustang Anniversary and get to see hundreds of Mustangs & Saleens !!!!!!!.

Whilst we have been to <st1:city w:st="on">Daytona Beach</st1:city> and <st1:city w:st="on">Orlando</st1:city> in the past never got to see <st1:city w:st="on">Miami</st1:city> and do the drive to <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Key West</st1:place></st1:city>. Another place we have always wanted to visit is <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">New Orleans</st1:place></st1:city> hope there is still plenty to see there after Katrina.

Is there any other good car places to vist whilst we are over that way, recommendations ?

We thoroughly enjoy driving in the <st1:country-region w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">US</st1:place></st1:country-region> even though you guys drive on the wrong side of the road we make allowances for it.

Not sure what route we will take from LA but will stop in and see a buddy in Lake Havasu AZ and then head east to Birmingham AL

Try taking the old Route 66 as far as it will go for cool historical perspective.

Or for a Southern US trip, Interstate 10 takes you from Los Angeles through Arizona, New Mexico, Texas (including right past me and Houston Mission Control AKA Johnson Space Center), through Lousiana (including New Orleans, there is plenty left), then take Interstate 59 north through Mississippi and into Alabama (passing the really cool Mercedes plant in Tuskaloosa) and into Birmingham. Then Interstate 20 east takes you into Leeds, Alabama where Barbers is. They have the most amazing Motorcycle museum there, not to mention the giant gathering of Mustangs.
I was there last summer just to visit the motorsports museum, it took my family and I almost four hours just to see the museum, which overlooks the track.

That's the way I go (except I bypss the traffic in New Orleans on Interstate 12, which loops around New Orleans) when I go to Birmingham every year to visit the family.

Cool beans Tony! Should be a good time, document the trip!

I haven't decided if I'm going to Alabama, yet. I should probably work on this.

It would be neat to experience Knott's as well... and razz Jim in his element.

Decisions, decisions.

I'm waiting for the 50th. I just can't bring myself to go to Alabama for some reason. I was at the 35th in Charlotte which was awesome.

Sounds like it was a great time!

I had spoken to our Club President Debbie a few times over the weekend and she said it was great to see everyone out at the show.

The go carts sound like the time that my wife spun me out and then Steve t-boned me which then caused the fuel tank on the cart to break and cause the gas to go all over the track... Now that was fun but I also hurt alot from it LOL.

I was suppose to have been at this show but with my wife having two doctors appointments we were unable to make it.

If anyone has pictures please post them... I would love to see them!
