I have a 1995 Saleen S351 (non supercharged) and i was wondering what kind of rotating assembly it has? I heard that it has a stock crank and robs but forged pistions? Anyone know the real truth?

I just pulled the engine out of my 95 R-Code because of a knock it had developed with less than 11k on the odometer. The pistons were the stock hypernutectic. One broke causing the knock.

seems to be the norm, if you drive them like they were disigned to be driven its gonna need new pistons. when i first got my s351 i was told when i was buying it that the engine had been rebuilt with only a few thousand miles on it. i considered backing out if the deal thinking that "wow this thing must have been driven REALLY hard". but the more i researched it, most r-code's have had broken pistons.

They used a stock lightning rotating assembly. Hyper pistons, stock rods and crank. Most of the r-code cars if driven have had the motors rebuilt due to this issue. They didn't use a forged piston (wisco) till 96 and they went with eagle rods in 99.

Do you know anything about the cams used in the 95's?

They are a custom grind from Comp Cams. I have the specs somewhere in storage. The only thing is that they used a few different cams over the years. I want to say 3 different ones. I have a few new cams that I obtained a few years ago. Saleen never would give out the specs on them. Specs are similar to a TFS stage 3 camshaft. Its not the greatest cam for power though. I swapped mine out in my 96 and picked up a decent amount of power.

Thanks. If you should ever come across the cam specs in the future I would appreciate having that info. I just rebuilt my 351 and the machine shop sourced the cam from Anderson and it is quite a bit different. The part number that is some what scratched out on the end of the Saleen cam is a Comp number?
