Fixed: Rear window louver rubber trim
 

As you know, the rear window louver panel of the S302 PJ have a rubber / foam trim on the backside that rest against the window. I assume this was placed on the trim to prevent rattles and noise.

My trim was dried, rotting and falling apart. I replaced this trim with the following...

Sponge Neoprene Stripping with Adhesive by Cleverbrand Inc. In size 1/2 Inch Wide x 3/16 Inch Thick x 50 Feet Long. 50 Feet is enough to do two cars.

New material is nearly exact to the OE rubber I removed from this panel.

Dave, you seem to be the go-to guy with many answers to PJ questions. I suspect that the foam gasket on my new-to-me PJ 501 louvered panel will need to be replaced if it's like the rest. I note in your message that you used 3/16 in. thick stripping from Cleverbrand. I was looking for this material on their website and note that they don't currently show 3/16 in. thick stripping. They now show either 1/8 or 1/4 in. thick stripping. Would either of these thicknesses work for the PJ louvered panel?

Hi Richard,

If you cannot find 3/16" thickness, I would try the next size up with thickness. This rubber shrinks with heat and age.

Dave and anyone else having an answer,
Today, while finalizing the winterizing process on my PJ car, I removed the rear louver panel expecting to see that the foam horizontal strips were detoriorated and needing replacement. I had planned to keep the panel at home over the winter and work on it in my basement.

What I found, however, was foam in like new condition so no need to mess with the foam. I did keep it here at the house so that I can give it a good clean up though it's perfectly suitable as is. The problem I do need to deal with is that one of the metal plates containing the threaded weld stud came off the window when I removed the louver panel (it possibly could already have been loose as mounted). All the other plates seem to be securely attached.

Do any of you have any information on the adhesive that Saleen used to hold the plates to the window? I'll need to get some before the car comes out of storage next spring.
