Throttle Actuator problems
 

Hopefully someone can give me some guidance here, on my '06
I had an electrical issue last week with a short in the intercooler fans, fixed that problem but when I went to start the car, I heard a rapid clicking noise at throttle body.
The car would not start or even turn over.
Disconnected TA wires and the car started but only in limp mode
Since then I have changed the throttle body , accelerator pedal assy, checked all the fuses relays and replaced the diode in fuse box.
Spent 2 days checking continuity from accelerator pedal to the TA all appeared good, no shorts or resistance in wiring
Voltage at 2 wires at TA 3.67V but does not increase with depressing pedal
As a last resort I changed the PCM with another same result

Haven't got anymore hair to pull out

Throttle body issues
 

Hi Tony:

I think you covered most of the bases. I am sure you made each of those changes one at a time to determine if any one of the was your solution. Apparently, so far none has solved the problem.

Since the voltage is not increasing as you depress the accel pedal it seem like the issue is in the throttle body positioning and/or TPS.

The steps for replacing the throttle body and associated parts are covered in this link and indicates what to do when the TPS voltage is not correct. You may want to switch out the throttle body spring internals, etc and/or use a new or different TPS from your other Mustangs. But even with a different throttle body you still need to set the correct voltage of the new/different throttle body.
I think a different or after market or stock throttle body you still need to check the voltage and then check the voltage changes with accel pedal.

Hi John

Have a bunch of new parts here first of all rep[aced actuator motor with no luck then put another complete throttle body on again no change. Even changed accelerator pedal assy.

Gone through all the wires for continuity and back to earth.

Had a guy here last night that has found on 9.3V on one circuit and this is corrupting the computer to the point we cannot connect to it if the TA is connected.

This just came out of nowhere this car has been so reliable on the track for 13 years and of course have a meeting this weekend. So just put tow points on PJ #45 and an internal fire extinguisher so I am still going racing although it is certainly not quick as '06 or setup the same but I will enjoy pushing it up the hill.

Have another technician coming next week to properly identify the issue.

Throttle body issues
 

Tony: Assume not fixed yet? I also have a 2006 S281SC
I probably should have emailed you direct as posting helps on the forum can lead to flaming responses...oh well...
the following may have been done already. Is car still in 'limp mode"?
1. Change the throttle body due to the noises you heard in TB
2. You also need a new or known to be good TPS
3. Fuse checks:
#20 PCM Mini relay, change it with known good one
#45 PCM 10a
#53 PCM Diode You have already done this..?
4. #68 Ignition 20a Note: the S197 Mustang will run in 'Limp Mode" if this 20a ignition fuse #68 is blown so do not ignore this one!!
5. Clear cache in computer and re-learn idle, etc by doing the following;
Remove both Pos and Neg cables from battery
Connect small jumper wire between the removed Pos cable and removed
Neg cable and leave connected for a minimum of 20minutes to clear
cache and re-learn.
The reason for clearing the cache and re-learning is that the jolt of current from the shorting problem with your fans has messed up a lot of normal parameters.

Tony, you sound desperate so no harm in doing all of the above.... I think..
