sway bar linkage question
I have had a couple GT's from these years and now have an '06 Saleen S281. I replaced the shocks and struts as I did with all of my past Mustangs. Things were all good up until about a month ago when I started hearing a rumbling noise for the right front. As in my previous Mustangs, the sway bar linkage is the issue. But this time it's not just a matter of tightening the nut. It seems that the linkage bushings are shot and no matter how tight I get the nut the noise is not going away. Just wondering if the linkage is the same as a GT or if it is Saleen specific? I want to replace both of them, but don't want to order a GT part and find out that it's not the correct size. I notice that the sway bar is not stock, but hoping they just put that on with the original GT linkage. Thanks for any info you can supply.

Stock Ford sway bar links.

Thanks Dave. I also emailed Saleen and they got back to me very quickly with the same info.

What about the rear stabilizer assembly?
The previous owner must have had the car covered, but kept it outside. Lower components are all a bit rusted and I have been wanting to replace some of the rear end stuff, but I believe the stabilizer bar is a Saleen product. Not sure about the bushings and connectors. If it's like the front, then I may be able to just purchase GT replacements before I remove and sand the stabilizer bar.

The front sway bar was a Saleen item.
The rear sway bar and links were upgraded to a Ford Mustang GT500 bar for vehicles equipped with Saleen's watts-link. The S281 Extreme had an upgraded rear track arm installed by Saleen. |
Thanks again Dave. It appears that the S281 I have is just a stock GT rear stabilizer and the replacement kit is a lot easier than sanding and painting everything. I'm planning on just ordering that as well as a new track bar to freshen things up a bit. Looks like I can't avoid sanding and painting the rear axle tubes, but replacing that just doesn't warrant the cost for a car with 60K miles.
