Brings back memories. Where is that car now?

Dave 10-23-2008 07:51 AM

I don't recall the ET footage. I do remember, maybe Inside Edition, had a similar feature. I believe they interviewed an "automoblie expert" about what Tim Allen had purchased with regards to the RRR.

Something makes me want to say, this story used what appeared to be, home video coverage of Tim, the car, and his reactions.

Maybe Inside Edition. I don't think it was Current Affair(?). Or those other gossip, entertainment, what-ever shows from the 1990s.

Last known, I think it was still out west in the desert.

Not4you 10-30-2008 09:58 PM

hands down that is my favourite car EVER. When I was too young to drive but old enough to read car magazines, that car started my desire to have a Saleen. Riding in my uncle's '88 t-top and knowing that it had the potential to be that white RRR started me into the hobby that I still enjoy 16 years later!!

Thanks for posting, and I hope that car is safe in the desert. Any more details on it's current condition?

One of the Saleen junkies might know of current condition.

The RRR artist print, shown in the video, would be neat to have.

I was able to record that to VHS when that first showed on TV. That was awesome. I also have another cool video that was on eagle one motorsports that showed production in anaheim in late 89 with the SSC and the bumble bee montgomery ward cars on the track. Does anyone have or know where there is footage of when Tim was on Jay Leno with their first drag race? Tim was driving my favorite saleen which was the red SC press car, Jay was in a 427 cobra. I have the second was Tim and Jay in a burn out contest.....with the SR and the Ken Dutweiller twin turbo GNX. I have this video but and looking for the first.

Here is but the burnout you mentioned for those that have not seen it. Can't find the other one.

Neat find. I remember recording that episode onto VHS. I also recorded a segment from an automotive show (can't remember the name) back in '89 that featured an interview with Steve Saleen where he talked about the use of Monroe Formula GPs and General Tires XP2000s on his cars and the segment featured one of the bumble-bee cars and a white convertible running around now-defunct Riverside Raceway. I can't remember what I did with that tape.

Dave, Cool video, I wonder what happened to the original wheels?

Are you talking about on Tim Allen's 93? Those things were the black with carbon fiber centers.. race speedlines with an indy car style cover on them. I think those were just on for the photo shoot and a few laps around Willow.

If memory serves correctly, the 2nd owner placed the 17" Speedlines after purchase. The custom setup is still with the car/ owner.

Pete, post photos/ start a thread when your SSC is sporting white Speedlines as well.

Hey guys,
There was actually an article on RRR in today paper. The second owner apparently lives here in Phoenix area somewhere and purchased the car from Tim in 1997 and has held onto it since. I looked online for the article with no luck so I will try to take photos and post later.

That looks like the Saleen facility on Whatney in Irvine -- besides, it couldn't be Washington -- people are wearing shorts!

89Saleen215 03-12-2010 03:14 PM

My bad!! Come to think of it...if I would have seen it in person I would have a whole lot more pics than just that one. So you are probably right. I must have downloaded that pic from somewhere when it was up for sale.

Sorry for the misinfo...the memory isn't what it used to be. BTW...I find it odd that there isn't much out there on this car. I found the one mag article from 94 and a pic that someone had from who knows where. However, I do have my own personal mag collections on this car as it was my inspiration (along with the SSC) when I built my 89.

great stuff! thanks.

I'm really suprised that Tim Allen didn't keep that car especially after all the publicity and all.

91saleen30 04-06-2010 10:08 AM

Good find. That car looks better in person, But I'm not too crazy about the headlights.

Funny you brought this to the top, just a couple weeks ago I was reading something about this car.

Last I had heard, someone separated it from the honey comb wheels, is that true?

shorty1 04-17-2016 08:41 PM

One of the original wheel covers was lost prior to me buying it so they put different wheels on it.
