Review: Steeda Tensioner issues

This Steeda tensioner with its basic version pulley has lasted approx 1 year and I realize it has a flaw in its design. I couldn’t figure out why I had a squeal going on again in my belt? Then I found it, once again coming from the tensioner pulley. Steeda tensioner shaft is so short only half the pulley bearing rides on the shaft. I compared it to the cheap auto zone one. Obviously neither are adequate. The Steeda version causes bearing squeal even though it has good tension and travel in its internal. Im not sure why they would design something like that. Has anyone else come across this? I’m now looking in to purchasing the Roush tensioner hoping that they have a better product.

I’ve had the Steeda tensioner on for about 6 years now without an issue. I thought all Steeda did was take the stock tensioner an weld on the 1/4 inch reinforcing plate to back.

Too much slop and space there because only half the width of the bearing is on that shaft , creates a problem. The pulley isn’t going to be a tight flush fit when it has force from the belt pressing on it. If I can find a spacer to fill that gap it would probably take care of it but chances are I’m getting that P51 Roush tensioner.

Mine came with the billet pulley. It might have a bearing that fits the shaft properly.
