I took the time today to install the T56 reverse lockout box.
Basically since our cars did not come with the T56, we don't have our computer controlling the solenoid on the side of the transmission that keeps you from engaging reverse at speed.
Therefore, this solenoid is always engaged and makes it VERY difficult to put the car in reverse, even at a complete stop.
I bought the kit from GRC Performance in California.
I installed it in about 1 hour yesterday.
Easy connections. 2 wires to VSS/OSS sensor, 1 wire to +12 volts, 1 wire to ground, and 2 wires to the reverse solenoid.
Basic operation is it applies 12 volts to the solenoid when you are between 0mph and 5mph.
When I first installed mine, I didn't notice any difference.
So I took the solenoid off the transmission.
I found that when applying 12 volts, it did not disengage (or make a clicking noise).
I took the plunger apart and found the inner spring was in a bind.
This could possibly have been caused by never engaging the solenoid properly.
I cut out a small portion of the spring and reinstalled.
I hit it with 12 volts and the plunger moved back and forth and clicked.
I reassembled to the transmission and tested it out.
SMOOTH as BUTTER!
Much easier to get into reverse now!
Best $113 I've spent!
