I'm not that familiar with using dyes, but I would consult with a good upholstery shop or a restoration/repair specialist.

If you want to do it yourself, check out a company called Leatherique.

Hopefully someone else will have some first-hand experience with what you're attempting.

Keep in mind that leather has a finish, and it's tough to re-create that.
