Fluid Changes?
With the 2005 (25k miles) new to me, just wondering about fluid changes. Not that I'm just looking to save money, but wondering how necessary. This was a 1 owner and I believe adult owned
1) Oil was changed at 300 miles ago, but that was 1.5 years ago. 2) Anti-Freeze who knows if it was changed. 3) Same with Brake fluid, power steering. 4) Manual Trans - (TR3650) Does seem notchy like my old 2003 Mustang GT trans 5) SC 6) Maxgrip differential. Anything else I might have missed. Thoughts??? Thanks Last edited by mpbsrSaleen; 01-24-2021 at 10:30 AM. |

I would change the common fluids (brake, transmission, rear diff, antifreeze) and change the motor oil.
More for age than miles. Saleen ran full synthetic motor oil in a non-Ford OE weight. |

Id focus on anti freeze (the rust inhibitors in the glycol, loose their effectiveness over time), and brake fluid (hygroscopic). I personally would not change the dif, or trans fluid, for a ~15 year old car with 25k miles.
With that said, fluid changes NEVER hurt anything but the wallet. |

My 2003 GT with a Tremec T5 was notchy and only when they swapped it out for a new one about 2 years later did the notchyness go away. Would hate to have the same problem with the TR3650, unless it's truly normal but wonder if a fluid change would help with Royal Purple or something else. As stated, trying to be a little easy on the wallet. |

Can't help you with your question, on the transmission and Royal Purple (I only use OEM type fluids).
I remember recently changing a fuel filter on a 2005 car, with 16k miles, as I was doing it, I said to myself, would you be changing this if it was a daily driver? I spare no expenses on our cars, but also have become more realistic. |
