Black trim treatment?
Hi everyone,
Living in Arizona the sun plays hell with any black trim part's on the exterior of a car, so I was looking at Mothers Back To Black & Meguiars Ultimate Black Any thoughts and suggestions? Does the black run when it gets wet/washed? Maybe another product other then those 2? Also the metal mesh grill's are starting to look a little beat any suggestions? Someone told me to Rattle can them.... Thanks in advance! |

Honestly, I wouldn't use either. Both just hide the problem with no long term protection. I would go with 22ple VR1 plastic and trim coating or Cquartz DLUX trim coating. I am currently using the 22ple VR1 on my cars plastic and it is awesome! Not only does it restore the look, but also glass coats and protects for up to a year! Once applied it gives you the just dressed look and it keeps it that way after each wash. I was going to do a review on the forum with before and after photos of my coating my cowl a little bit later. I'll link it when I'm done. :)

I recommend Mothers Protectant, product #05316, you can get it at O'Reilly Auto, Ace or True Value Hardware, or amazon.com (available as #05324 24 ounce online).
Satisfaction guaranteed -- shoot me a line if you're not happy.

Sorry about the delay, been slammed......
Thanks for the tips Jim - I will look into the Mothers product... Xx - I look forward to the before and after shots, kind of expensive product but it sounds like a permanent solution, I may go that route since its permanent...... |

Use a heatgun carefully. Yup, you heard right. This will bring the natural oils up and will refresh the color naturally. It is a little known body shop trick. A hair drier might work as well. As for chemicals, I like Surf
City and Meguair's back to black type products. |

Heat gun is a risky way of fixing trim.
If it's faded and dirty, I've got something for you to try. Send me an email to Mothers.

I just used the Mother's Back to Black and it is a decent product. My Saleen trim pieces definitely have seen too much sun (cowl is gray and so are the roof rail pieces).
After using Mother's, the only thing that doesn't look black (still very faded and very gray) are the end cap pieces on the roof rails. Otherwise, the plastic pieces looks waaay better than before. As others have suggested though, I am sure there are better products out there and lasts longer too. But my Saleen shares duties as DD, so I am not looking for the "trophy" winner finishes. Hope this helps... |

Black trim treatment?
Quote:
^^^ and the photos below are with 22ple trim coating. I still have a few high spots that I couldn't get rid of, yes I am OCD, so I am going with CarPro DLux next. CarPro DLux is a wipe on and walk away so it's a little bit easier to use. And this was done around a month ago and still looks the same today! It doesn't wash off and still is BLACK like it is suppose to be. :) I have used pretty much all of the black trim products and none restore the look while protecting like the new coating products from 22ple and CarPro. Save yourself time and money and just buy the one time solution.
