Default Thinking of buying a Saleen and i need help!!!!

I am thinking of buying a 2000 S281SC Saleen Mustang for $9000. There are 33,000 miles on it and looks great and seems to run great as well. It has all the S281SC saleen parts including the badge on the firewall and dash. I work at a dealership and we bought this car for cheap from the guy and we are selling it wholesale because it has Sparco racing seats and a cold air intake on it so that is why the price is cheap. Is this a good deal even if it turns out to be a clone? Everything seems to point towards being a real authentic Saleen but was wondering if anyone could confirm it before monday (10/19/09) night. I called the saleen # people have been posting on here and left a message but do not know when they will call me back. Can anyone help me identify if this Saleen is real/original or not? thanks

the last 6 of the VIN is 291836
Saleen ID # 00-0936

I would wait for MJA/SPV to contact you on Monday for legitimacy, but right now it looks good.

Depending if the vehicle was ever damaged, stolen or went through a natural disaster... I would say the price and miles seem fair if the overall condition is good.

The stock Saleen seating in 2000 are standard Ford Mustang GT fair.

Feel free to post photos if you want on open opinion on the vehicle.

Welcome to the Saleen Forums!

Keep in mind that a check on the published last 3-digits does not qualify as a solid match, but things are looking optimistic with what Dave posted.

Compare the book value on a Mustang GT and see how it pans out. Worst-case scenario, you've got a GT with a lot of expensive parts, though a modded car should be carefully inspected.

Price wise, condition would play a great part, but it sounds worth considering.

Looks good. The hood scoop was added on and I don't see the front bumper production number decals. The decals could have been removed for a bumper repaint... or maybe removed for age issues, but check out the front cover.

Yea the bumper was repainted, so i am assuming that is why the production number is not on it...I will definitly need to find one to put on it if I purchase the car

Just to make sure, what is the correct number and extension i need to call to confirm the legitimacy of the saleen?...does anyone know

Sounds like a sweet deal to me. Here is black book on a 2000 GT with 33000 miles. Keep in mind this is a GT. Im in Dallas so these prices represent Texas auction prices.
avg $5650 clean $6975
nada trade $6738 nada clean retail $9713.
All this considerd if it checks out to be authentic I would say $9k is fair for sure

NADA puts the value of a 2000 S281-SC at $17,800 average retail... which is what a good insurance company would cover it for.

at 33k miles... i'd buy it man.
