Default Q: 1988 front valance screws?

Hi guys, first post here.
I purchased a 1988 saleen hatch last week and have a question about the front valance.
It was starting to come off on the sides where it wraps around so I decided to take it off today and re-do the double sided tape.
I have heard that saleen used screws also, is this true?
Can you actually see the screws?...are they painted?
Mine had no screws but did have screw holes in the lx bumper beind.
Anybody have any pics close up, if he used screws then I will put screws in.
Thanks in advance, Alan.

Depends.

Consider 1987 and 1988 to be screwless years. Are there exceptions? Possibly.

If your rear is screwless, keep the front screwless to match.

Saleen was specific on where the screws were placed and the number used. Some people added their own screws.

From Saleen, the screws are visible with the heads painted body color by brush.

Well after having removed the valance it had been screwed in at some point.
I noticed holes in the lx bumper but the holes in the saleen valance have been filled.
The rear has no screws at all.
If I were to re drill for screws what mind of screws were used.
Are they the same as the screws in the door jam holding the side skirts on or are they countersunk or ?

The screws used in the door jam should match the ones in the wheel wells. The screws for the front air dam and rear valance are countersunk.

The tape alone didnt hold very well for me.

I assume thats why Saleen started using tape and screws in 1989.

I used stainless countersunk screws, as they are the least noticeable.

I drilled the holes in the Valence with a countersunk bit.

I painted the screws body color before I installed them and then touched them up after.

Not how Saleen did it, but I have seen guys somehow bond the ground effects to the car, to the point where the seem is no longer visible. Made it look like the stuff was all one piece. Not sure how this is done, may just be glue and bondo.

Back on the 89 Saleen assembly line, we used an epoxy that was applied just under the bumper rub strips on the LX body where the 3M Body Tape would bond.

The key was to allow the Saleen ground effects to fully cure below applying any force.

The screws on the front air dam and rear valance were 89 additions and were indeed countersunk. Just black, plain wood screws were used and the topped off with body color touchup paint. They were employed since a number of previous warranty claims were popping up for front and rear ground effects coming off (mostly cold winter climate).
