Default Q: Canadian car info?

Trying find out track down any info on a 1 owner 2006 Mustang GT convertible/ probably Saleen clone? Out of Canada. Believe car was sold new in Ottawa Canada. Car has solid car fax & auto check with 7000 miles. I called Saleen in CA. and it’s not in registry buy last 8 of vin. Also gave them bumper number, only info they would tell me was it didn’t come back with my last 8 of Vin.I went over the list I printed out for everything a 2006 Saleen should have, including options. This car is only missing about 4 off whole list what’s suppose to be on a 2006 Saleen. I even have the painted fiberglass roadster panels & sports bar. Hard to believe someone would buy a new car then and make it a clone when the money in it could have bought a real registered one.

Hi and welcome to the forums!

  • The headrests are Saleen, but the seat covers and foam are not.
  • Your seats look like they are using the stock Ford Mustang foam, the embroidery logos are too large (and red) and the seat cover design is a copy of the Saleen seats.
  • The styling bar is not the Saleen-design version with metal accent strip.
  • The Speedster kit is not the Saleen-design cover.

With the 2009 fire sale of Saleen parts, building an okay clone was not impossible, even down to owner manuals.

Who every did this spent a lot,Especially in Canadian money which cars are more then US. I having someone in Canada trying to find out history of car. Been researching on web some an that Auto Bugatti in 2005 & 2006 would take someone’s car new car and for $$$$ make it almost the real thing but not registered. Not sure if this is the case trying to fund out the story with this car. Came across in states sometime & Speedo panel changed to from Kil. to mph. Been I car dealers collection for some time.I haven’t seen any other fiberglass roadster panels out there so I wouldn’t know. I guess someone could find a 2006 Saleen owners manual. Even lower pulley on engine I saw says Saleen.

The Canadian Saleen vehicles had their own production quirks.

You will find 2004 S281s were 2003 seating. 2006 S281s with 2005 seating.

In the states the S197 Saleen Mustangs were built from IUP equipped cars. In Canada some cars have the plastic dash and rubber steering wheels of base cars.

In Canada they used their Saleen conversion parts inventory until it was depleted, in the US if Saleen changed a part design it then went into use next model year... not so in Canada.

Yea, I hoping a guy in know in Quebec can find something out from 2006 on this car, it’s spotless 1 owner 7000 mile now car.Vin says it’s a 2006 Mustang GT deluxe.Had dealer run Carfax it was a Canada & Canadian registered one owner. It does have that plastic dash you said. But has a leather steering wheel. I printed out the list of what a 2006 Saleen C281 stranded features and specs. should have.Only 3 things it doesn’t have, one 200 Speedo changed out when came to states changed from frost Kilometers to mph.2. Numbered plaque w/vin & number,3. Saleen key fob,

During Saleen conversion the silver heat/AC dash vents would be changed to black.

The silver dash IUP Ford trim was a standard feature for an S197 Saleen conversion.

On most Saleen Mustang conversions, except for the 2007 S302 PJ, Saleen swapped the round silver vent slats for black one.

A special order car could have the medium grey colored aluminum-look dash panels, but the vent slats were still swapped to black.

In Canada, there were a rarity of a base interior Mustang GT getting the serialized conversion.

A base interior dash looks like this.

PS: Notice the rubber steering wheel without the silver spoke trim and how the dash face is black grained plastic.

Yup Mine has leather wheel,Have no Saleen tag. Front bumper number is 15c. Vin comes back as a GT Deluxe convertible.Im still waiting for my friend to find out if Auto Biggatt did conversion on mine.Someone in Canada spent a lot of money on a new 2006 GT convertible. Also Dave can you tell by these engine pic’s if it has the HP upgrade? Also did they come with chrome value covers, mine has them.

My Canadian car still has silver vents. I think they just used what they had. I know of other Canadian cars missing various things such as the Saleen instrument appliqué.

That car is not real. As Dave mentioned above, the seats are not authentic, not even close. I noticed it does not have a under hood firewall Saleen VIN tag. It also does not have the Saleen cluster. As for the vents, I've yet to see a Canadian car have black vents. Everyone, including my own 2006 08c has silver vents.

Saleen Canada was owned by Bugatti Canada. They still have build records for the Saleens they built.

Default Ya not real

Lots of effort when into that build to look like a real Saleen, but lots of details were not followed through that are dead giveaways it's a clone.
One of them being stock gauge cluster. Still a great car! Just hope you didn't pay for the price of a real one. Enjoy the ride.

I have an 08 #12c, Dark Candy apple red metallic convertible , so very similar to yours.
