Default Saleen custom-paint cars? - 2005-09 era

Hi all,

I am interested in collecting more information about Saleen custom-paint cars in the 05-09 model years. Although the Saleen literature lists several custom colors, so far I have only spotted Speedlab yellow, Lizstick red, Beryllium, and rainbow, plus of course Mollypop Pink. Does anyone know of any other custom-paint colours used in 05-09?

Also, it has been suggested that each color required a different base chassis colour. My speedlab yellow S302E was originally black, and the docs state that rainbow must also start with a black chassis. Anyone know the base colors for the other custom paints? [EDIT: Were the Stirlings a custom silver paint?]

The Saleen literature for 2008 lists the following:
Speedlab Yellow / Black / Silver
Saleen S7 Silver / Black / Silver
Lizstick Red / Silver / Silver
Pearl White / Black / Silver
Black Metallic / Silver / Silver
Beryllium / Silver / Silver
Victory Blue / Silver / Silver
Bright Signature Red / Silver / Silver
(plus extreme rainbow)

Specific to the S302Es, so far I have only spotted four with custom paints - mine (08-0011), and the two Beryllium verts (08-0024 and 08-0025), plus a rainbow 09 (09-0009). I am always on the lookout for S302Es, so if anyone spots one, I would love to hear about it.

Regards,
Chris.

Just to confuse everyone, I am quoting Jim's reply from another thread here. In 2008 the Custom paint was a $17k option, with rainbow being $18k.

Look behind the dash, or around the Ford VIN Plate on the dash.

I don't have all the data at my fingertips, but for a 2007 Saleen Extreme Rainbow (and probably most other years) the required exterior color was black (UA).

For 2004, for example, the following was indicated on the Dealer Guide (Rev. 9/24/2003):

Saleen Color - Ford Color
Speedlab Yellow - Screaming Yellow
Saleen S7 Silver - Silver
Lizstick Red - Redfire
Pearl White - White
Black Metallic - Black
Beryllium - Black
Victory Blue - Sonic Blue
Bright Signature Red - Torch Red
Saleen Extreme Rainbow - Black

Retail cost on the optional paint for 2004 was $8,000 for all but the Rainbow, which was $11,500.

As one can probably guess, that has changed over the years, and likely also exceptions were made depending on what was available and how badly a customer wanted a particular color.

Question- I have a 2005 satin silver metallic S281. When Saleen does the body kits and workmanship on these cars, does He repaint the whole car or does He just paint the body kit and bolt it on??

The Saleen body kit parts are color matched to the OE Ford paint on the untouched panels. The typical Saleen conversion does not include a repaint.

Keep in mind that for the S197 era, the base chassis color from Ford does not seem to matter. I believe we know of an 2007 S281 S/C coupe in Lizstick that was Grabber Orange from Ford.

I believe Gullo Ford took delievery of both a 2008 Extreme Rainbow S302 E coupe and a 2009 Extreme Rainbow S302 E Speedster.

The 2008 Sterling Editions were not a Saleen custom-color vehicle. These were supplied by Ford in OE Vapor Metallic. A new Mustang color in 2008.

Two S197 Saleen custom-colors that seem to live an overlooked life are Trilogy Silver and Liquid Mercury.

They both went to the same collector too, still have the window stickers on them last I saw. the 2008 was numbered "08" (I think) and the 2009 was "09". Joe Mills knows the collector and could verify the numbers, and he has better pictures too. The same individual owns the Saleen race car in the last picture as well.

Question on 2006 Saleen Extreme with Ghost flames:
I saw an old post how much you said you had owned this car at one time. And it started off as a black car. I’m talking to the guy that currently has that car and he says he had it custom-made for him and that he’s the original owner. And I see a photo book of the car starting off as a blue Mustang not a black one. Is it possible that they made two cars with ghost flames? This is an 06 Extreme in Lizstick with Scenic roof?
