How many 1987 Saleens survived time?
I know how to find production #s but I have seen a few that were totaled and just wondering if there is a way to figure out how many 87s are still around. Im #79 I saw a few other 87 owners on here.

You can find out how many Saleens are registered by calling Liz at Team Saleen. She has all of the officially registered Saleen info. I realize that this does not tell you how many are left, but it will tell you how many are registered. Some may have been totalled, and the embarassed owner may not call Liz to tell her that the car has been destroyed.

That one is nice and all, but I would rather keep mine more original. I can't really say that I'm using mine for the purpose it was designed for... I'm drag racing it, but I only plan on replacing the parts that can be put back to original if I ever needed to sell or show it. The entire bottom of the car was rubberized undercoated by a previous owner. It looks like a bunch of sludge. I'm guessing the original owner did it to prevent rust in the northern states. It looks terrible.. I know not too many other people see it, but I see it. All of the Saleen suspension is rubber coated. It will all be replaced with drag suspension and then hopefully I can get it all repowdercoated and stuff. Does anyone have any pics of their Saleens to send? I'm interested in looking at some other ones. Please email to jerwenmad@cox.net Thanks!

I used to own 87-252 which is now in a private collecters hands. Its white with blue stripes and has 28K orginal miles..
BTW..The Saleen is his only Ford product, he collects Vettes and late 60's Camero's...funny how that works..

I have a restored 87, number 215, Black and Gold. It was totaled. Now it's all good.
But I am in need of some pics, I would like to find someone who still has the hood and fender decals on thier car. If they could send or post pics of them it would be much appricated. Maybe even get some measurement of their location.[/img] |

My car was ordered with the Racecraft and 302 decals deleted, but I do believe I have an instruction sheet somewhere with the measurements for placement. Let me do some digging. Shoot me an email and I'll just reply to that. krlepp@earthlink.net
Also, I'm sure that Mark at Performance Autosport can also help you with the measurements. www.performanceautosport.com Thanks, Kevin |

87 Saleen info
I have historical information and paperwork for the person who now owns the 87 Saleen vin. last 4 numbers of 3969. I sold Saleens in 1986 to 1989. I was digging through the boxes of early Saleen stuff I have compiled since 1984 and came across tons of old material.
I also have the historical data of origininal owners who fist joined the club in 1989. If you want info send it to tfc2@hotmail.com Thanks, Tim

I have been having this discussion with several of my collector friends. They were less then 300 cars built, this was the frist year for some major changes, Race season was good, interest was high and the exposure really landed Saleen on the map. I think to find a nice orig 87 hatch or hard top is goingto be difficult. Think about it, there were only 33 verts built, of that 19 came with Ford leather and rest we believe the rest have cloth flofit.
The buys back then didn't purchase it to put away they wanted someting different so they drove them. I know of a couple of low miles mint 87, not to many. I still have a passion for the 85/86 cars, however 87 is the year people really started understanding Saleen.

3 piece sterns must come cheap in your town....everyone has got them. I wish I had a set

Greg-Couldn't agree more. 87's had disc brakes, unique rear valence and the aero look. These cars will come around in value. While 85/86 four eyed cars look way cool, the mechanicals are better in 87 and up.IMO.
For the market price of a good set of 3 piece Sterns, you can have a project car! |

Good buy, I looked at the car also and really considered buying it but I already have a hatchback. I think the next one is going to be a vert. You can contact Mark @ Performance Autosport. He is the Foxbody Saleen guru when it comes to these cars. He will hook you up with stripes. As far as seat material......GOOD LUCK. You're gonna have to find something close. That was my biggest issue with the car that all the seats needed to be redone, but the car is still a great car. I loved the way it drove....nice and smooth. Awesome find man and good luck. You should contact Bob aka Twilightvert over there in O-town.
