Default Top Speed of my 2006 S281 S/C?

I have heard many guys say that the top speed in these cars is right around 160. I find that hard to believe, being that one of my work vehicles will do about 158, and it has no real performance options other than suspension upgrades. I was wondering what kind of modifications I need to make to make my top speed as high as possible.

I currently have a SC 281, Saleen 475hp upgrade, colder plugs, Basanni high flow cats, X-pipe, 3.4 pulley, and JDM tune. I have no idea what kind of power I am putting down.

What else could I go with to increase the top speed? I was thinking a good tune would help, but JDM already tuned my car...

The reason I am asking is I might attempt to take my car down to the Texas Mile and try a top speed run.

What gears do you have? If 3.73s or 4.10s you could always move down to 3.55s

I've had mine up to 165, my GPS shows 162. It has 3.55 gears. Of course that was just for about 10 seconds, I think that I could get another 5-7 mph if I had more room.

It was at 5500 rpms and there was more pedal but no response. Initially I thought it was a speed limiter but I double checked to ensure it was turned off and ran it again, same thing.

It was great that I had the opportunity to drive it that fast, legally. Those days are gone now...

The Mustang GT and Shelby GT 500 were limited to 155-157 from the factory.

I know either Motor Trend or Car and Driver took a Shelby GT500 that had stock gears 3.31's they got to 186 at bonneville.

Your car is probably putting out the same or close to the same HP so it all depends on the gearing. With 3.73s I can get to 140 in 4th by the end of 4 gear and I am running the Brenspeed Stage 3 kit with long tube headers etc.

160mph seems pretty low myself, I was able to get up to 145mph with no problem, granted I have a front splitter and rear diffuser - LMAO

You could move to 3.55 or 3.31 rear gears (if you have 3.73 or higher), taller tires, put your car on a diet, and more boost will al increase your top end. The only problem is that more boost could pop your engine.

Where were you doing 158 in your work vehicles? lol

I had a similar setup to yours and was putting down around 420-430 rwhp. You can probably add a little more power and reduce your gears but I would be interested in seeing what speeds you can hit as is.

Performance vehicle pursuit driving courses, (Dodge Chargers).
I have no idea what my Saleen would run, the fastest it has been is probably 80 mph. I am currently running 3.55s, per my original window sticker. I would love to add some more hp, but I am just so afraid of blowing the motor with excessive boost because the motor is not forged.

I'm sure if I changed out my rear gears to some taller gears like the ones ran in the Vipers I could get closer to 200mph. But I do love the unruley nature of my 4.10s.

Stock vehicle w/3.55's and I have edged it over the 140mph mark on a couple of occasions. The real estate is whipping by in a hurry at that speed!! Probably still a little left...except balls!

I ran 157.1 officially (speedo reads high) in my last trip to the Texas Mile. with cross/headwinds and 80+ temps. At the time my power was about the same as yours, and my clutch was starting to slip. I have 3.73 gears.

You will need to check that your tires are rated for the speed you are intending to run, as there are not a lot of options for the 20's with the proper speed rating. The Pirellis are really solid at that speed, but the Invo's I have on the back now are not.

Good tires and decent conditions and you should see around 160mph, maybe a little more if you drive it perfect. Top speed is a little over 170 given the room with your car (from another owner, I haven't been any higher).
