Default Help: VIN check for a 2000 Saleen Mustang?

hey all, found this poor car at an auction and wanted to verify if it's authentic. here's the vin:

1FAFP42XXYF146492. Green over tan, has firewall ID (looked fake) and no console ID (console torn up). Had Saleen (red) pulleys and gauges. Bumper #007.

Here's to hoping it's not real because it's in real sad shape!

2000, but it has the 99 anniversary badges on the side. I can take pics if needed, but I'm tellin' ya, if it is real, it's gonna make you cry!

The registry does not list an #07 Mustang for 2000. Looks like Saleen Performance skipped the number that year.

It's a shame that if it's not authentic, that was a lot of wasted money. I don't think there are many (if any) parts you could salvage off of it. Maybe the pedals, gauge faces and pulleys, but that's about it.

You are correct. The single exception is the 2008 Dan Gurney Edition. These are the only Saleen Mustangs to feature bumper numbers with two leading zeros. 001, 002, 003... 012... etc etc etc.

Looks like it may have been a real good fake. It looks like it might of had a dash plaque removed as well.

Saleen Performance / Saleen Inc used a few different Momo knobs during the New Edge era.

So to piggyback, would the 01 N/A have the [carbon or momo] shifter as well? I want to be period specific and I have the Stock GT knob on there now... Thanks!

Saleen used both the leather and the carbon. If someone ordered the uncommon carbon interior package in 1999-2000, the vehicle should have shipped with a carbon knob. The rest have either or and both would be correct.

Welcome to THE Saleen forums @ SOEC.org!

I do not believe this is a serialized Saleen, but you should contact Revstone Performance Vehicles to verify.

yeah let me try and figure it out. only 3 pics i have are from the ones he showed me on facebook. i think speedmob on here is him maybe if he is still fallowing this post he might have some.

The car still has the firewall badge matching vin to vehicle with the number 007,
has the tire information sticker with saleen logo on it on the drivers door framing,
the car now has a cobra bumper hood with no scoop, cobra doors glass has all been replaced and a cobra interior on gt wheels.

trying to figure out how to post the pictures on here

Sorry to revive an old thread. However I just purchased this car today. Guy in Watertown Wi had picked it up as a project in the past and lost interest. Transmission has been rebuilt, and car had been painted white (poorly). He had plans to turn it into a drag car but it still has the 03-04 cobra bumper, saleen scoops, saleen pedals, saleen pulleys, tags, etc. Even came with the original tan interior parts that the car came with along with some 03-04 cobra interior parts. Was it ever determined if the car was an authentic Saleen or no? I can provide more info on the car when I get into tearing into it tomorrow.

That VIN is not in the Saleen database, though there is no #00-0007 in the database at all, so it may have been skipped, which often happened.

As the evidence stands, it's still a clone... Saleen sold a lot of aftermarket parts to guys who customized their Mustangs to suit their tastes.
