Default PJ questions...

I just bought #440 PJ today. The right rear wheel has been scraped against a curb and looks pretty nasty (although not bent). I was wondering if you guys know if I can purchase another wheel from saleen or if there is any chance of getting this one fixed. It also has a couple rock chips on the hood so I will also be needing some touch-up paint. Thanks in advance...

Thanks Tony. That's not a bad price...

I was able to pick up some GO touch up paint on ebay.

Ok so I ordered the wheel and the paint... Now I need a new shaker hood ring. This is the black plastic piece that is made on the hood. Mine has two cracks which I assume are from the sun. Anyone have any idea where I could pick this up? Would CDC's ring be the same?

I think Saleen still has that piece. Someone else got a replacement a little while ago.

I can't find it on saleen.com (speedlab parts link), is there a different site for ordering a part like this? I would assume it's the same ring for any shaker hood setup from saleen, right?

Also- bysaleen.com sent me an email stating they can't find the pallet of wheels so they are looking for them now. In the event they don't find it, do you know of any other places. I have not called Jess yet.

The Saleen website is out dated on parts. Call Jess.

I am currently on training for work and can't find time to call Jess. I sent an email to the parts department at saleen with attention to Jess, think that will work?

That would be great, thanks man. I really appreciate it. This freakin training is in Birmingham and from 8-5 CST... That doesn't leave time for anything. I won't get back home until late Friday which then puts me into next week.

Welcome to the Saleen Forums!

Certainly any reputable wheel refinisher can fix the wheel. There are some services that can come out and patch it while on the car -- a neighbor had his X5's wheel repaired and you'd be hard pressed to tell. I was a little skeptical, but impressed. Certainly it could depend on the type of damage you have as well.

If your center caps are faded, don't forget to see if those are available.

Ok cool, thanks for the information. When I get back in town ill take a picture and post it on here to see what you guys think. Its a spot on the outer edge closest to the tire about 4 inches long.

Now.... How do I find a reputable wheel finisher? Lol! Particularly one in my area...

I finally got ahold of buysaleen.com and Mike is out today so I still won't know anything until tomorrow. Hopefully they can either ship a wheel out tomorrow or refund my money so I can place an order with Saleen (Jess) if necessary. I guess either way I will still have to order the shaker hood ring.

So Mike called me this morning and they cannot find the wheels. He is attempting to refund my money now. I will try to call Jess at lunch today in hopes he has a wheel for me. I'll also ask him about the shaker hood trim ring.

I was able to get ahold of Jess and the price on the wheel is a little more than I am willing to pay without trying to fix it first. As I mentioned before it is only a scrape about 4 inches long so I may be able to get it fixed locally by a repair shop (or maybe even attempt myself).

I am going to order the shaker hood ring from Steve though, I need this part and don't see any way of fixing it.

By the way, I forgot that Permatex sells a wheel restoration kit if you need filler (I saw one at Kragen aka Checker/Schuck's/O'Reilly depending on where you live), and Dupli-Color sells a variety of common factory wheel finishes, but I don't know if the PJ wheel is a standard color.

Hopefully someone can provide a color code for you, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was a custom color.

I remember them being called custom wheels, but I don't know if that is the wheel or the finish or both.
To tell you the truth, since I plan on keeping the PJ a very long time I have been buying spare items as I find them. And yes I do have a spare set of wheel (4) for just in case.

Thanks Bruce! Do you want to sell one of those rear wheels?? LOL! If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for your spares?

Keep in mind the replacement/ service PJ center caps are a tad different from the production pieces.

The delivered caps have a clear resin over the center identification. This center tends to get milky and/ or yellow. The replacement caps do not feature this clear center insert.

Sorry no, I want to keep the set. If I remember correctly $1200.00.

Thanks for the information guys, I really appreciate it. I will be ordering my hood ring today from Steve. I will keep you updated on the wheel and whether I decide to fix it myself or not. I am still looking for the color though.

Ok so I got the new trim ring yesterday. Has anyone had to remove the original? I don't see any way to do this (IT IS TIIIIGHT) without screwing up the stripe. Any help is appreciated. There is a show this Saturday and I don't see me fixing this by then...

I believe the ring has trim tape and adhesive on it. I have not personally removed one, though.

Yea, I see the strip of tape on the new one and I can see the adhesive silicone squeezed out on the inner side of the hood.

Update-

I went into the garage last night with two things:
1. A positive attitude
2. Plans to remove the cracked hood trim ring

I came out of the garage with three things:
1. A positive attitude
2. The realization that the 4 cracks (not noticeable by non-anal enthusiasts) are not that bad
3. A new hood trim ring placed in a safe place for a winter project, or maybe never

This thing is stuck so tight that it looks like the hood could accidently be bent when trying to pull this thing off. I will be putting this project on the back burner for the time being. I was able to adjust the hood and hood pins so it can be shut without having to slam it down. I was also able to paint the inside of the exhaust tips to make those look new again.

I will be going to carlisle next week for the annual fall show. I hope to find and talk to a reputable wheel repair service.

So, I finished the initial cleaning last night and the car is looking a LOT better. I took all four wheels off and cleaned the break dust off the inside. I hand washed all of the fenderwells and painted under the rears where the yellow could be seen through the black undercoating. I re-painted the inside of the exhaust tips and waxed the entire car.

I believe the previous owner actually used my PJ as a daily driver :(. She will now ONLY be driven to shows and small joy rides on the weekends.

Although I still have to fix the hood trim ring and the wheel this winter, I've been to two shows so far and no one has noticed either of these blemishes. :) My dad has a 2010 GT500 and it's nice to see the people walk right by his to come see my car.

LOL!

Your poor dad... and you probably paid a fraction of the GT500 price for your PJ.

The PJ is a great car, done "right." It's fun to hear you're enjoying her!

Post some pics when you get a chance!

Yea I know, I feel just a little bad for him... However, just to be fair, I offered to trade him. He said no... LOL! I really love the PJ but I just can't get over the "mean-ness" of the 2010 Shelby front end. I'll have some pics up in a bit...

I had to sell the 93 fox to get the PJ. I had just finished it with the exception of paint. I put in a 600hp 460 engine (that I raced in another fox and ran a 10.28@128), PA Auto C4, new 8.8 w/ full spool, UPR tubular K member, coil overs front and back, turbo action cheetah shifter, LT headers and full 3" exhaust (X and 40 series Flowmasters), and much much much more...

The pic of the shelby is when we picked it up at Battlefield Ford.

Of course the PJ is mine with my dad in the seat after the test drive. (I have removed the BOSS stickers)
