Default My One Time Upgrade, input and suggestions :)

Ok, First off i'd like to thank everyone who has helped me this far with questions etc, this is one of a few auto forums i'm on and you all seem like a helpfull, knowledgable group.

I bought my car on a Whimm during travel for work. Its 5000kms from my residence and I am planning on shipping it before xmas. Problem is, where I live is hours from speed shops, dynos, tuners etc. Therefore, I have to try to source all the parts I need to do a one time upgrade to this car before I leave in a couple weeks. (this is why I am spending a lot of time on here reading and trying to figure what exactly I need to get..lol)

I have a good idea what I want and what I need, want suggestions in a few areas though.

I have or am getting:
-Cobra 39# injectors
-Autolite HT0 plugs @ 0.035
-Vacuum line upgrade
-SCT Xcal 2 tuner (will this work with JDM tune files?)
-WMS Cold air kit (they're 10 mins from the car, prefer Techco or Saleen -extreme though)
-Pulley, this is my biggest question, 3.4,3.5,3.6" pulley? Car will be at sea level, want to go with the smallest pulley I can, but don't want to upgrade the fuel system any further then 39# injectors.
-Belt, Dayco/gates?
Midpipe-I am looking for suggestions on a exhaust upgrade, have a BBK O/R X pipe available, but hear its raspy with the stock Cat back, what are you running and how is the sound?

I will be asking JDM to do the custom tune for the package I nail down here, so I will be confirming any suggestions with Jim jr as he will be writing the tune for the car. (if he will ). I would love to avoid having to dyno tune the car, that would mean I would have to install the parts and go to a dyno before shipping, is this realistic?
Thanks everyone!

Dave

JDM can send you a tune with every new upgrade that requires a tune (of course you will have to buy the tune (s)). JDM does sell & e-mail SCT tunes. A dyno tune is not required but is the optimal considering every car is just a little bit different. You just have to let them know the specifics on your car, they will ask, and they will e-mail you a tune based on pervious experiences with similar options. So, you can modify your Saleen in South Africa, for example, and not have to worry about getting a tune (as long as you have an internet connection).

I would recommend that if you are going to be away from any speed shop, buy and install a A/F guage. This will measure the air fuel mixture in the exhaust and tell the tuner if the mixture is too rich or too lean. This will help whatever tuner you pick "fine" tune the car after the mods. I was pretty lucky that the local Mustang Club here in Germany flew over a tuner and I got a dyno tune last summer. I still have the A/F guage that allows me to sweak the tune based on the that days conditions.

From my limited experience, it is recommended that if you go with a smaller pulley than the 3.6 you will need to upgrade the fuel system.

Are you doing the mods yourself or having JDM do it for you? I would recommend that if possible to have the tune done in the shop before it ships. That way if there are any issues with the tune, they can fix it right on the spot instead of e-mailing tunes until the tune is right.

I am realitively new to the Saleen community but had a similar experience trying to pick-up and ship my car in a short period of time. I Hope this helps. Good Luck!

Thanks for the input wiggywigton, I will be installing the mods myself, grew up wrenching on cars, mostly old ones (I have a 70 challenger T/A) but I still enjoy doing my own work for sure. Just can't do the tune side of things.

I've heard I will be ok running a 3.4-3.6, some say 3.4 some say 3.6, my local shop actually makes a 3.5" pulley which may be a good alternative. This is my biggest choice to make.

The rest is easy, pulley size, a good tuner, and a good sounding mid pipe are what i'm trying to figure out now before ordering anymore parts. I want the car to be reliable, and get the most out of it with the upgrades i'm doing.
