Default Q: Supercharger oil change? - 2006

Hi, I need to change the oil on my 2006 SC with 50,678 miles. I took to local Ford dealership and they would charge me $275 to do. They said the alternator has to be removed in order to do it. I read the threadthread on the forum about the oil replacement and it said to make sure all the oil is siphoned. It said nothing needs to be removed. Any idea if this is true? Also, can i do myself? I'm no mechanic, but i do all my oil changes, so I'm willing to get dirty. Where can i buy the new oil to replace and how much does it cost? Any guidance is greatly appreciated!! I live in the Bay Area, GO NINERS!!!

You need to remove the water crossover to get to the oil screw. The best way is to buy a large syringe and a hose, so you can suck the oil out. No need to remove the alternator.
You can buy Ford XL4 oil or GM 12345982 supercharger oil. There are even sets on ebay that include the syringe. The supercharger takes about 6oz. of oil.

The correct way to do it is to removed the supercharger, drain what oil you can and ship it to Jason at 281 motorsports for correct servicing. There is more to it than sucking the oil out and putting new stuff in. Give him a call and talk to him 877-281-6878.

Thanks for info guys. I do drive my car daily, so not sure taking off SC is an option. Any other advice on how to do it or where to take to get it done?

I drive mine daily as well. But to have it done correctly and have a better piece of mind, I made that sacrifice.

Victor,

If you decide to have us do the full maintence on your supercharger, its only a 1 day process if you schedule it and if UPS/Fedex drops it off early enough, its possible to have it shipped out the same day. But there much more to the "needed" service than just changing the oil.

You can pick up the oil however from Ford, or we sell it bottled up in a correct 8oz bottle for $29.99

Here is the tool to use:

http://www.tooltopia.com/vim-hbr5.as...googlebase_18u

You will still have to remove the alternator (be sure to disconnect battery first), but this will get you in there without removing the coolant crossover, the small ratchet teeth will get you 2 clicks per turn.

Install your bit into the ratchet upside down and I used a dab of anti-seize to hold the oil plug onto the bit.

This VIM tool is a godsend for getting the supercharger fill plug off without having to remove the coolant crossover. Literally 2 micro-clicks per turn of movement. Had to get a finger in there to hold the plug once it got more loose, but eventually it came out.

I ended up buying several to keep in my various toolboxes at work and home.

Thanks

We will have to look at this, but if you drop the plug it will be a bad day trying to get it! We also make a dipstick kit you could buy to check and top off oil so you dont need to do this.

I can without a doubt vouch for Jason and his team. I sent my supercharger in from Florida and they kept me in the loop and his turn around time is as he said. They installed the dipstick to make checking the oil WAY WAY easier.
