Default Q: 1987-89 Flofit seat material?

Does anyone have source for the stock grey seat material used on 1989 Saleen flofit seats thank you

Maybe 10 years ago someone was able to find a close match for the darker outer material. The lighter inside material has not been matched to date.

Someone found a "close" material for the inner material with a China source (?), I don't remember... but enough people poopoo'ed it and was never pursued... or something like that happened.

Keep in mind FloFit seats went out-of-business a few times and/or their distribution.

If you want the full story, pull up a chair and go through this thread. Dave gave you the cliff notes. There really is nothing out there.

I believe I messaged the seller of that red Saleen about the upholstry a while back when he sold the car. He said he ended up using SMS Upholstry in Oregon. He said they had the red piping too. He stated it was the only place he could find to do this. He said they got close with the material. I would redo the upholstry in my car but funding is tough right now. There's still much to be redone on my car. Think he said it ran him $1500 in labor and $1000 in material to do the front and back. That was back in September 2019 when we exchanged messages.

I'm missing the driver's flow-fit seat as when the car was bought, it had a generic LX seat in its place. I have the head rest however, I really just need a Flo-fit seat and redo of the material to make it work. I saw someone sell beat up Saleen seats a while back on Ebay but the seats were missing the tracks. I checked the tracks for the LX driver's seat and tracks for the Saleen passenger seat, they looked different so I didn't buy those seats without the tracks off Ebay. Any ideas what tracks those Flo-fit seats used? Were they specific to Flo-fit?

Thank you for your feedback and information. I also hope someone replies to you with useful information regarding seat tracks in trade for your material expertise.

I ‘think’ my car has standard Ford type sliders. There is a type the SeatSource, no longer in business, used to sell. I think both were used, so either is right.

So will a standard Ford seat track for a LX seat work with a Flow Fit/Saleen seat that doesn't have tracks?

Should. There’s no special bracket holding my FloFits in.

I reached out to Doug at SMS Fabrics after they sent me sample of the materials. It looks pretty close to me. $119/yard. Not sure how much would be required to the seats (front and rear), but it would be awesome if they could actually put together a real kit that would be accurate, affordable, and most importantly- available!

He said, "I’d love to make these for you, but we don’t have a full pattern. If someone sends in their old originals, I’ll make them for you (and them) at a reasonable price.

Doug"

Anyone have a full pattern to send to SMS?

So, you are looking for a scrap pair of FloFit seat covers to have them split at the seams and used to create patterns from?

Just checking.

There are some rough seats/interiors out there.

If anyone has some available to send to SMS to make them, yes.

I suppose that they actually don't have to be actual Saleen Flofits- just the actual Flofit seats for dimensions, but then again, it might serve as a better template if they were actual Saleen Flofits.

Kind of weird that if they made them before for the ones pictured that they wouldn't have access to that template.

Maybe even some with FloFit seats in general who live in OR that might be able to take there car/seat in person to SMS Fabrics for measurements.

The owner Doug emailed me back and reviewed this post.

"Interesting. We have the materials. Have not made the seats to my knowledge—and I’m the owner. We can do the job if an old, original pattern is supplied."

I believe the seats covers in the red 1989 hatchback were cut and sewed at a local place to the then-owner.

Nick Panico on the FB Saleen group had SMS make cloth for a red Fox Saleen coupe. He said that the material cost $895.

SMS is currently having their first ever sale. I sent them a follow up inquiry to see if anyone had submitted some old ones for a pattern (and asked if they had the front seat pattern from Nick's project). They said- unfortunately, no so there are no patterns available at this time.

Here is what Karen at SMS wrote to me after I sent another follow up:

"We only sold them the yard goods they then would have had to take to a local shop and have someone else do the sewing! We would do the sewing for you if we had a pattern to do them but no one has ever sent us a set of covers to pattern from.

-Karen"

If we Saleen Fox 87-89 owners want a true kit, we need someone either local (OR) or has a set that could be sent to them to SMS to actual source a true kit. Any one local (OR) or have a set that they would be willing/able to send to SMS?

Hope that helps clarify things,

vf

So basically the place needs a sample pattern from ripped up seats to copy? Can't you guys just send them your torn Flo-Fit Saleen seats to them as samples? Aren't most 87-89 Saleen owners here just trying to re-upholster their old seats? I have a 87-89 Saleen passenger side seat that needs to be redone but I'm missing the driver's seat in my car. I just have a plain LX seat as the driver's seat but all other interior seats are Saleen. It all needs to be restored. I would have to find a used driver's side Flo-Fit seat somewhere to redo also. I just don't have the funds right now for this. This is amongst many restoration projects involving that car. However if somehow years down the road, I do come up with the funds, I would tell them to make extra patterns on hand for other 87-89 Saleen owners that want to restore their interior. I noticed there are quite a few fox Saleen owners out there that have ripped seats. I would tell the folks there at SMS to make extra at hand. There's probably many others that would want to redo their original seats if possible.

I’m getting ready to redo my seats and would gladly offer my covers for the pattern as long as I could get them back.

Would they be up to that for us?

To make patterns, they need to split the OE seat covers at the seams.

Each panel needs traced.

Hey, are you still looking for a beat up of flofit seats? I have a spare set (beat up) in storage.

User calbear was working on it.

Out of curiosity, I wonder if there is a tan / saddle cloth material available as well.

If I wanted to buy material... how does SMS sell the material? By the foot, yard, etc. What is the material called or the product code?

Aloha,

Yes, I have been searching for someone with the original cloth to get to SMS! SMS is actually having a 19% off sale until the 5/15. They sell by the yard ($119/yd), but would put together a pre-sewn kit for the Flofits if they have a pattern to go on.

If you could contact SMS Fabrics about getting the seat materials directly to them so that they could make a pattern template and then, sell as a kit- that would be so awesome! They will be looking for both the front and rear seats. (hatch and I suppose any other takers with coupe/convertible would also be good).

[I've been asking them since February and on the FB Saleen pages with interest, but no one able to actually execute.]

Karen or the owner Doug: samples@smsautofabrics.com or 503.263.3535

https://smsautofabrics.com/pages/contact
350 S. Redwood St. Canby, OR 97013

Please let me/us know once you've reached out to them. [I emailed them tonight stating that there would be a member of SOEC may be contacting them to supply a template]/

$119/yd. 87-89 gray Saleen Flofit cloth. Hopefully, we can take advantage of the 19% off sale and in a kit form.

Since it's so much more rare- I would be skeptical, but you should probably check with them. Once they have measurements, SMS would just have mimic the correct shades of tan. The center material is still unobtainium so SMS' reproduction is still as close as I've seen to date. Not exact, but if all the seats are recovered, should still be the best alternative out there.

There's seems to be a lot of negativity/skepticism from some members on the FB Saleen Fox group pages RE: SMS customer service, but all we can do is try to work with SMS and see if we can put together a workable solution.

Previous attempts failed, but doesn't mean we shouldn't try.

Mahalo for trying to assist in this project under-taking (and to those who have tried in the past).
