Question Q: Aftermarket IAT Gauge/ Sensor?

I’m looking to upgrade my factory IAT gauge and I have my eye set on a few different possible makes which include autometer. My question is in regards to the sensor. It looks like the factory Saleen sensor is 5/8” thread. My gauge and sensor are currently functioning fine I just want something better. So I notice when looking at these other gauges for sale that they come with their own iat sensor and it is only 3/8” thread in size (smaller).

What do we do in this situation? Maybe their is an adaptor out there they make? Do we need to use the sensor that comes with the gauge we buy or can we some how continue using our factory temp sensor? Just wanted to get thoughts and insight on this from anyone who has made the switch?

After some research I don’t think that factory Saleen IAT sensor is to be messed with nor removed and replaced with anything but that particular one. The cars computer reads that sensor not simply just the iat gauge itself.

You used an IAT sensor from a Lightning? Which year? I have a client trying to find one.

Hey Jason, sorry i'm late on the reply. The part number for the sensor is DY-1159 (9C1Z-12A697-B)

Product is compatible with Ford Lightnings, and 03/04 Cobras. I've had this sensor in for over a year now, and have run my Apollo in live data to monitor actual temps vs what the gauge shows and it's accurate, and no different from when the old sensor was working properly.

Hey guys thanks for your replies. I think I needed to describe my questions better, I wasn’t quite clear. Car is a 2006 S281E and my sensor is good, no problems there but I wanted to upgrade my IAT gauge from the factory Saleen IAT gauge to something else. I was trying to figure out if their is a way to tap into that and utilize that same sensor with an aftermarket gauge? All the other aftermarket gauges come with a 3/8 sensor which would requiring drilling a hole which I want to avoid. I don’t think I have that need anymore because I’m going to get the Aeroforce Interceptor obd2 gauge which will read my iat temp.

Ok well I’m sure I’ll come up with a list of parts I’ll come up with as I really get going on all the upgrades I’m doing currently.

With an "E" car, lets start with some serious traction mods. Awesome to make a Saleen drive like a normal street car but be compliant with how it manages the power!!

The "Power is ONLY in the hands of a few" who do the things to harness that torque.
