Q: S351 Oil Capacity & Oil / Filter to use?
New 99S351 owner. Do not have an owners manual for the car and would appreciate anyones help with a couple of questions:
1) What is the oil capacity for a 99 S351? Would like to use a full synthetic. Also, any recommendations on a filter? 2) Does the supercharger require an oil change? Looks like a self-contained system, but wanted to ask. Thanks for your help, Ryan |

Ryan,
Congrats on your purchase! Not many 99s out there. What # is yours? I have #23. To answer your questions, my owners manual says 5 qts of oil. But Ive always done 6 qts on a 351. Remember, oil has to circulate through the blower on this car so that takes some extra oil. Do you have the oil cooler hooked up on your car? Mine is off right now so I use a Motorcraft FL1A filter. If you have your oil cooler on, you need a shorter filter than this, not sure of its number. The owners manual also says use a petroleum based 5W30 oil. Personally Ive always been a Mobil 1 fan. Yes the blower oil gets changed when you change the engine oil since engine oil is circulated through the blower, its not self contained. Post up some pics when you can. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask! Shawn

i have two low mileage s 351's 99's on both of them under the hood there is a sticker which has the recommended oil weight and other things for the car i believe it calls for a 5w 50 synthetic which is hard to find ....but i believe castrol makes it. i use the recommended 5 qts and a standard ford motorcraft fl1a filter. in the supercharger inlet hose there is a screen that has to be blown out every once and a while just unscrew it and blow it out with a air gun. remember there are two oil drain plugs.

Thanks for your replies! The car is #20 with around 3300 miles. Tried to attach some pictures ... they are on my profile page.

Congrats on the new 351 car. Always run 6 qts due to the blower. Personally I only run Castrol. Never used synthetic. Do not under any circumstance use pennzoil or quaker state in any shape or form. Just a heads up on that.

Ryan,
Cool pics, you have a rio red one too. Our cars were both built in Sept 99. I have some pics of mine in the pics and vids forum. That would make a neat pic, a rio red coupe and speedster side by side lol. Shawn

My 97 originally came with a motorcraft fl300 oil filter but they are impossible to find. Fl300 is a little smaller than the fl1a filter. Living in CA I can't find 5w-50 but since the weather is milder and I don't drive it much in wintertime I have used 15w-50 without any problems.
