Default Seeking info: 87-0186

Hi, New to the forum, I have searched but can't seem to find anyway to tell apart from the vin, if its a real saleen.
Is there anything to look for on an 87?

Thanks

Hi, welcome to the forums! The Ford VIN will not decode if the vehicle is a serialized Saleen or not. Your best line of defense is to:

1: Look for the engine compartment serialization plate (mounted to the drivers side shock tower apron in 1987-88).
2: Write the production number down (if plate is present).
3. Copy the full Ford VIN.
4. Call MJA for verification using the data you have (MJA holds the production files).

Post a pic of the rear lower valence. 87's have a "year specific" rear valence (for the most part as some 88's had it)

Post pics of the whole car, especially the interior and engine bay. Does it have the flofit interior?

Default It is real

Dude,

Yes...that appears to be a real 87 Saleen...

It has the correct interior, the correct strut tower brace, wheels, suspension, the correct and hard to find Kenwood radio and EQ as well as the engine and dash plaques, etc...

The hardest thing you will find will be the correct rear valence for the 87...They are next to impossible to find for sale...Worst case is you can replace it with the later years valence. The front valance for 87-88 are pretty hard to find, but can be found.

It looks like a great project car. Good luck. Do you own the car or are looking to purchase? If you own, are you looking to sell?

Another victim of 1980s Ford Metallic Paint. Looks solid with most of the important bits present. For the right price, should not be a hard sell.
