Default Rockstar Games: S197 Saleens they purchased

Rockstar Games acquired three S197 Saleen Mustangs for use in their Midnight Club Los Angeles video game.

This 2008 cross promotion placed three custom vehicles in the hands of lucky recipients.

These three vehicles were originally press and demonstrator models used by ASC/Saleen and Saleen Speedlab. They were 08-0010, 08-0041S and Speedlab 2007 SEMA promotional vehicle (2007 chassis).

08-0010 was a Torch Red 3-Valve coupe. Seen during the El Toro press days in late 2007 and possibly featured in Motor Trend during a 2008 Mustang shoot-out comparison.

08-0041S was a Vista Blue S/C coupe. Also seen during the El Toro press days in late 2007.

The most modified car was the 2007 Speedlab car. This unserialized coupe has a thread on our forum. I believe this was the Pizza Hut car.

The cherry bomb wasn't a midnight club car?

Edit: just saw the link to the cherry bomb. My fault.

The unserialized coupe, aka "Cherry Bomb".

Side Note: Recall that Jared Chavez believed an H302 S/C spec engine went into Cherry Bomb. Which was a step below the S302 Extreme.

From the archives. How the Cherry Bomb appeared before the wheel swap and Heritage window delete removal.

Oh really? That would explain the dyno video of the cherry bomb. I think it only made around 440 rwhp. Let me see if I can dig it up.

Wow, video was deleted from YouTube. :/

While on the subject, what is the difference between the H302 and Extreme 302?

I believe the H302 used stock heads, w/ a forged bottom end.

The air intakes were also different.

For the 2008 and 2009 S302 Extreme the Ultimate Air Intake was standard.

For the 2008 H302 S/C and 2009 S302 S/C the commonly seen Extreme air box lid using original Ford equipment was standard. A less seen item was the hard plastic tube connecting the air box to the throttle body (instead of the rubber hose).

+1

So what does it mean that it is unserialized? Is it not as desirable, undocumentable?

It means the car was not serialized with a Saleen production number. The vehicle was produced as a SEMA show car, to highlight the custom work Speedlab Irvine could offer and to be a demo vehicle.

The Cherry Bomb did not emulate a production model offered by Saleen Inc. It was not an S302 Extreme, S281 Extreme, or S281 Supercharged. Nor did it start life as a regular Saleen production model. It was a leftover unconverted 2007 Mustang GT coupe in tungsten.

Cherry Bomb does have a Saleen vehicle line entry. It has incorrectly been called a 2007 S302 Extreme and referenced as such in LOAs from 2009/2010. We believe when Pizza Hut purchased the car from ASC/Saleen they thought it was an custom S302 Extreme.

We hope to suggest a change in reference and have future LOAs correctly refer to this vehicle as a Speedlab display car produced by Saleen. We do question the amount of documentation available and if a complete spec list exists as well as paint mix.

The Cherry Bomb is known, the VIN is known, some basics are known. It is documentable. Similarly to a 2008-09 Racecraft 420S.

Desirability depends on the interested party(ies).

Thanks Dave for your complete description.

I don't know if you or anyone else answered this before, but how many documented cherry bomb colored Speedlabs are there?

Cherry Bomb was a "one off." I believe Jarred said in the old threads this exterior color was an experiment that did not achieve the desired result. It may have been mentioned this is Lizstick over a black base. I do not recall.

You are correct Dave. I remember hearing it was a Lizstick and black mix, but they were disappointed in the color outcome. It was suppose to be more red with a hint of black. Still unique in its own way though.

The cherry bomb Saleen put down 482.8 rwhp and 466.2 rwtq in 2012. The video of the pull is on my PC at home. I'll try to post a picture of the dyno sheet later.

Very cool information. Decent power numbers for a S197 Saleen Supercharged Mustang.
