Question Q: Trunk Lid Hinge Mounting Points?

Can someone tell me it the trunk lid hinge is just held on by two bolts or are they welded. I cant tell because of the seam sealer is gooped all over them. I need to take one of them out to do a little repair there.

Thank you,

Syber

Just in case anyone needs to ever do a repair in their trunk hinge area...

1. After you take the trunk lid and the black rubber seal off, take out the trunk liner and go into the wheel well and take out the two nuts that hold the hinge on.

2. Then take an air chisel with about a 1" wide bit on it at an angle and slowly remove the sealer that is gooped around the hinge. Sealer will be very hard... Be careful and do it slowly as to not damage the hinge or metal around hinge. After the sealer is removed, work the hinge out. Remove old sealer to the point that the repair needs to be done.

3. Do the repair, and reattach a hinge, and do a mock run on the hinge and trunk lid installation to make sure everything is aligned. Make alignment adjustments as necessary BEFORE you proceed from here... If you have rust you can use POR-15 or something like it, or a sheet metal repair. Use Beige 3M seam sealer. Other seam sealers are too thick to work with and will not come out smooth. Using a caulk gun, make sure you goop plenty of sealer on and around the repair as it was from the factory. It will be tacky to use, but when you use it, use a little paint thinner on the sealer, and on your finger to smooth it out as you go. The thinner will keep the sealer soft and workable till you have it the way you want. Let it dry.

4. Prime and paint and its ready for the trunk lid.

This is a really a pretty easy repair and don't be intimidated. I was inexperienced and did it in about 2 hours...YOUU CANN DOOOO IT...
