Default Fuel door solenoid inop

I've seen the pull tab in the trunks of Mustangs so that you can open the fuel door in the event the electric solenoid is not operating. I literally tore out everything from the trunk space of my '86 and cannot locate the pull tab! Of course, I'm on fumes. Got any advice? Thanks in advance.

Interesting... you're looking for an orange thingy attached to a thin cable, if memory serves me right. Look underneath the vehicle and see if you can see a cable housing -- I've never looked under there and can't right now, but you should see something of a thin cable.

Thanks, Jim. I just looked and still I've found nothing...no cable nor the tab which I clearly remember seeing on my previous cars.

I recall that my cable & handle use to dangle in the spare tire well and I think the cable ran back to the rear hatch trim, in front of the tail lights.

Correct, My cable is next to spare tire well. If you need a solenoid I will be at the wrecking yard Saturday. I will get one for you if you like.

Thanks for the help guys. I've been out of town for two weeks on business and have had absolutely no time to get to the car. Now I'm ramping up for a car show (without the Saleen) this weekend.

At this point, I will remove the rear hatch panel to see if the pull tab is tucked away.

Thanks for the offer to pick up another solenoid, but I believe that the problem is a simple electrical connection or a possible fuse issue. It's just a matter of time before I resolve the problem. Again, thank you very much for the help...that is why I prefer this forum above all others. Oh, and the members all drive really cool cars! Not that I'm biased or anything.
