you can always go to Borla or Flowmasters. IMO there has never been a better sounding muffler than flowmaster, though I absolutly love my stock 06 exhaust

An off road H or X pipe means you dont have cats

then you can just put the stock one on for smog taking the cats off will make it sound better i took 2 out of the 4 off and noticed a difference

you can also pulley you car make more power that helps too

Your vehicle is equipped with the Saleen/Borla cat-back system. A wonderful set-up. As stated, change the mid-pipe.

You can replace just your mufflers and go with the "louder" version of the Borla's, the Stinger.

I would go with what 1HOT281 said, especially if you have Smog requirements as I do. Another thing to look at if you go this route is the pipe diameter going into the muffler. On 2001's like mine and possibly yours, the 2.5" pipe leading to the muffler is necked down to 2.25" which can cause an nice drone at 2200 RPM's or so. I would have that kink removed as well. You can't beat the look of those Borla tail-pipes!

Dave's suggestion works well too and will net you some more power. I know on my 89, I bought a high-flow H-pipe with cats and it woke the car up considerably. I do miss that car...

You could always do both, high-flow H-pipe and lose the kink for the best of both...lol

I kept my Cat-back from saleen and went with the bassani x-pipe along with their mid-length headers. Great sound and added about 20rwhp at the time.

I left the Factory manifolds in place and replaced the 4 Factory Cats and H-pipe with a 2.5" Bassani X-pipe with 2 Hi-Flow Cats and easily gained 20-30 RWHP.
This is through the straight-through Factory Borla mufflers...

I only revved it to 6,000 then steady 3,000 and steady 2,000.
Mine is a 4-valve Cobra engine though.

My setup is close to 67fire's

Stock Borla through BBK x-pipe with 2 hi flow cats.

http://www.bbkperformance.com/produc...onverters.html

I believe the stock mid pipe setup is 2 resonators and 2 cats, not 4 cats. Could be wrong on that.

I had a Bassani off road x pipe for about 2 years and while it was louder, I thought it sounded like ***. Literally a big flatulent ***. Perhaps results may very with this setup

I went with the hi flow cats for emissions testing reasons and I'm pleased with the sound.

I have been meaning to take a video of mine. I will try to do one this weekend or next week. I have an 02 - SC281 with Bassani off-road X on mine. Its not supercharged...yet... not sure if the supercharger changes the exhaust sound or not but yes, I would just try dropping the CATS first and see how you like the sound.

With the deletion of 2 of the CATS, it definitely got a little louder.
Here is the video from a couple of hours before the change:

Not EXACTLY Apples to Apples as this was recorded outside.

On my supercharged '01 GT I have stock manifolds with a Bassani o/r X-pipe and catback. It's very loud at WOT but fairly quiet at lower rpm's. It's also much louder from outside the car than what you hear inside. Couldn't believe it when I had a buddy drive my car while I drove another...

From what I noticed adding a supercharger didn't change a thing with sound.

Here's two dyno vids of my car last year. The sound is pretty accurate to what it sounds like in person, though it kind of echoed more inside the shop in these vids. Hard to find vids online that sound like it does in person.

And here's another vid I found of Bullitt with 2 cats.

And another car from the inside. You can get the idea but again pretty accurate.

I personally love the sound and the loudness. Something different than what most get for the Stang

I just ordered the BASSANI Mid-Length Headers and BASSANI Catted X-pipe today!!
Total cost was $988.00 + shipping from Dallas Mustang...
They have a 5% discount going right now and do not charge tax! Would have been free shipping but it is an oversized item!

Looking forward to this.....hope install is not an arm and a leg!
Gonna leave the stock magnaflow mufflers in though....

You will love them :-) You may need to shop around for the install. I was quoted $800 by one shop and found another to install them for less than $500. They are a pain to install but well worth it.

Also an FYI. Make sure they pay close attention to the AC line that will run very close to the passenger side header. It needs to be adjusted and wrapped. My line actually rubbed through and the dye from the AC refrigerant got on the header starting a fire. Scared the hell out of me but didn't do any serious damage.

I also have the Bassani X with two cats. While I love the sound I'm already thinking about switching over to offroad H to bring me back to my old fox body days. Just thinking though..

I highly recommend an X..vs an H. Sound is indeed better, and suppose to be better flowing..

I went a different route and put on a SLP catback and magnaflow catted x pipe. Here's a vid with just the SLP catback. The catted x woke up the car even more.

Even though I like the sound of flowmaster everyone has them. So this is the combo I went with. A little raspy at times with the x pipe but it's a totally different sound. I'll post up a vid with the x pipe soon.

My 1998 has Flowmasters and an off-road X. Already burnt up three sets over four years. I have the Borlas in the garage waiting to go on, back to the original (and the best, IMO). My 2000 has Magnaflows.

I swapped mine around... took 2010 GT 500 mufflers and fabbed them up to fit my new edge - here they are with my Bassani offroad X.

Was out with a friend with a full SLP exhaust and no cats... my set up was actually louder than his... here's a new vid clip
