Hell of a transformation. Glad to see that car looking good again. Great job! One question, is that the original style hood?

No. The hood is aftermarket and the front bumper cover is the Mustang V6 version. The replacement interior is Mustang V6 as well.

I respect the rebuild, but with so few dollars invested, not sure why the current owner decided to avoid returning these features. Since SMS still has those parts in-stock, for the time being.

he still has the option to do those minor tweaks. im sure its an arm and a leg, maybe a kidney too, to pay for a lousy seat cover, those get the job done, im sure they are just as comfortable. as for the v6 bumper, i agree, but its still a SMS. the hood is aftermarket and more flashy and maybe thats what the owner went for. he isnt nit picky and is enjoying his car, we all have opinions true, but every car will not a cookie cutter car. the owner isnt trying to please anyone but himself, after all that hard work, itd be stupid to get rid of the car for someone who wouldnt appricate everytime they turned the key.

Well Dave, it's noble for you to think that SMS has all the parts "in stock". I"ve ordered an interior kit, it never showed up and never got a call back. I ordered steering wheel center and fender emblems and they never showed up. I did get one box once from SMS, but it had been ripped open by someone at the post office and there was nothing inside it. I refuse to pay $1500 dollars for a hood and $3700 dollars for Seats, I don't care what they are made out of, and as far as the V6 Front bumper cover? Who cares? I got it for $80 bucks and it was ALREADY WHITE!! SMS wants $1150 for the cover alone, then you gotta buy the chrome rings for $250. That was another "no brainer" just to get it running. I learned my lesson in 1996, when I repaired an S351 R code Theft car. It was missing seats, wheels, Front bumper cover, Supercharger and I bought EVERYTHING new From Saleen at a HUGE COST. One year later and I could have had everything I spent $20K dollars on for less than a GRAND off a WRECK with 2000 miles on it. I'll bide my time, I know that a HOOD, bumper cover, and Seats will eventually show up USED for peanuts compared to new ones that you really can't get. As for a "v6" interior, that's nonsense. Those are just the factory cloth Seat covers that came standard in V6 Cars AND GTs. I test drove a white GT with the exact seats as I have now. They are surely comfy and I came very very close to hitting my Target Figure of having the car running and driving for 15K dollars. I'll finish it later, I didn't want to create a money pit without knowing for sure the car was going to actually run and drive properly. You can pick on my car's missing parts all you want when you show me "YOURS"!!! AHAHHAHAHAHAHA

Bravo d514ave! You accomplished something that many folks wouldn’t have attempted. Regardless if the “initial” replacement parts aren’t SMS, it’s your car! ****, I wish I could say I spent $15K on my ’07. Haha. Drive it til the wheels fall off. Good job!

My question was more out of curiosity... I think what you have done is amazing. The car looks sweet and you can enjoy it. Like you said, one day the parts will be more available and cheaper. If my stolen 89 ever showed up, I would do the same...

The Tow hook is fully functional and attached to the RF Frame rail, I've already used it to load the car onto the trailer to get programmed at Ford. It's nearly impossible to hook underneath the car anywhere safely, and if you've ever been up close and personal with any road race car you'd know they all have Tow Hooks on them. The rules state you MUST have one front and rear. Besides, it's just BRUTAL to have a tow hook on a street car. Cunfuses the neophytes and wannabe street racers at cruise night perfectly. Go look at the nose and rear of any PORSCHE GT3 RS, RSR, or any American LeMans series car and you'll find all the tow hooks. As for the hood, heck it was cheap. Keeps the rain off the engine nicely, and it's very resellable someday when the correct hood makes itself available. It's not even painted, and matches perfect!!! The car also has a full length front splitter/undertray covering the complete nose all the way to the Engine cradle. Another race car thing, if you've never worked with them you wouldn't know.

Good restore, that's so pathetic of SMS to first try and get the prices they are asking for items and secondly not coming thru on potential sales. Sounds like SMS is running just like Saleen!! I would guess their long term futures are going to be the same.

Ummm. No.

One thing to keep in mind, there will not be a huge inventory of 2010-Present parts. The large production of the SN-95 body allowed for a strong market for both new and used items.

The odds of finding used SMS parts 'cheap' is simply not there. If one finds used SMS parts, the market is bare, they should carry a large price tag regardless.

If 10-005 attains a new owner, I hope they finish the car correctly. I also hope the shock towers don't crack from being burnt by flame.

Once again we have someone who has NO first hand knowlege of the car making stupid statements. Shock tower crack? Burnt by flame? What kind of nonsense is this? I've never seen anything burn without a flame!! For your information SIR the paint was still ON the passengers side shock tower just discolored, so that side couldn't have got that hot, and paint was still on the majority of the drivers side shock tower and under the fender on the reinforcement of the unibody. I made the careful determination during cleaning and inspection that NOTHING structurally on the unibody was heated enough to warp or warrant replacement. I've seen quite a few FOX body Mustangs and SN 95's with MAJOR body cracks that have NEVER been in a fire or crashed!!! Nothing last's forever. I highly doubt that the front end is going to just fall off next week. If something structurally cracks or gives out 20 yrs from now, you fix it just like any other car!!! Or take it to the crusher!!! Your choice!!!

I have been talking to a ford dealer the past few months after meeting the salesman and I was told that they have 60k SMS car that no one wants on their lot plus they hate dealing with a warranty issue and will never order another one IF they can sell the one they have.

I offered him 25k for it. lol
