Saleen SpeedLab Loses Longtime Teammate Jared "Red_Devil" Chavez

SOEC/Saleen Forums News -- December 18, 2008 -- Due to cutbacks at Saleen Inc. and certainly not helped by the tough U.S. economic climate and the state of the auto industry, SpeedLab veteran Jared "Red_Devil" Chavez will be leaving the company on December 19.

Chavez had worked alongside Saleen veteran Carlos Duran, until Duran left the industry in September, only to get reeled-in at the last minute by rival Techco. Chavez's current teammate, Ned Shortsleeve, will continue at Saleen's SpeedLab division sales office in Mission Viejo, but likely at reduced hours.

As a key member of the SpeedLab team and most recently being responsible for handling parts sales for customers in the Western Region, Chavez has held the pulse of the enthusiast hobby and has been a strong supporter of SOEC and Saleen enthusiast activities and shows over the years. He assures SOEC he will do what he can to continue to stay connected and support the hobby, including staying active on the Saleen Forums at soec.org.

While Chavez is looking outside the auto industry for employment, we wish him the best wherever he lands!

Sorry to hear that further cutbacks are already effecting Saleen longtime employees. Jared I wish you luck and I hope you are able to stay around to help us out now and then.

Wow This sucks! I see Jared and Ned at all the local car shows representing Saleen. They would always would take care of any concerns or problems saleen owners would have! I know Jared will land on his feet soon and I wish him the best of luck! Thanks for taking care of us owners!

Jared has done a lot to help SOEC, and his participation on this forum is a small example of the support he's given owners. Indeed he has been very helpful behind the scenes in resolving problems. Up until recently the guys at SpeedLab have been the one constant in a seemingly ever-changing company, and luckily we have Ned to carry on that tradition.

It certainly is not good news, but I think this announcement is meant as an opportunity to thank Jared for his good work over the years, and for his support of our hobby.
