Default Q: Aftermarket tubular K-member/stock a-arms? - 2002 S281

I need to replace my steering rack and I also have a set of long tube headers to install. Figured while I am down there I also want to install CC plates, Bump steer kit and a K-member for clearance issues. I want to keep my stock springs and struts. I am not against tubular a -arms but I also drive my car every day so I need to keep it reliable.

Anybody have a similar set up? any recommendations? Anything else I can improve while I have it apart?

This is a N/A car by the way.

I am doing something simliar except I'm doing the clutch and flywheel at the same time with my headers. I would suggest changing the oil pan gasket while the kmember is dropped though. I don't know how many miles you have on your car but I had that gasket go on two different engines in my 2000 GT; one at 80k the other at 44k and in order to change it you have the drop the kmember so might as well change it for $40 then have to drop it a second time if it ever starts leaking.

putting tubular a arms wont affect reliability at all. most k members use arms that are specific to the k members so most of the time stock a arms wont work.
just make sure you dont run a drag only setup. you want a sturdy k member and a arms, not something that skimps on strength for maximum weight reduction.

with the tubular a arms most require coil overs. you can use your struts with a coil over conversion. nice things are you can adjust ride height where ever you want, less weight and you will get improved ride quality from the reduced spring rate/wheel rate.

Consider swapping out the steering shaft for a maximum motorsports one to get a more direct feel. there's a lot of play in the stock steering wheel

Also consider:

  • Swapping out the stock rubber steering rack bushings and replacing them with urethane or aluminum bushings (I did the aluminum) Link to the ones I used with a stock K member
  • replacing the end links if they're worn
  • new thicker front swaybar
  • if you keep your old swaybar then you could at least change out the bushings
  • k member brace

Looking at PA racing chromemoly K-Member & A arms with spring perches. MM Steering shaft, urethane rack bushings, steeda bump steer kit, maximum motorsports CC plates

Funny how simple switch to long tube headers and replacing a bad rack involves so much more ..... at least that's how I explained it to the wife

I have a Granatelli tube '99-'04 K-member and stock A-arms in my fox body. They all bolted right up.

Default Steeda k member

Does the Steeda k member change any specs as you have with other k members. Never like the idea of my wheels scooting forward or backward in where they sit.

Maximum motorsports has regular and forward offset control arms. The steeda will not push the wheels forward or backward.
