Default Questions: 2006 Saleen decals and rear spoiler?

Hello Members,

I'm thinking about buying a 05-06 Saleen Mustang non-SC. I have seen a few for sale that have no side door decals and no rear spolier. Were these cars ordered like that? or do you think the decals and spolier have been removed? Just curious to know.

Thanks for your help

Sandy

Hi Sandy and welcome to THE Saleen Forums @ SOEC.org!

The rear Saleen wing that is mounted to the top of the deck-lid skin was a styling feature of the S281 S/C and S281 Extreme in 2006. In late 2007 & 2008 the S281 3-Valve (Non Supercharge) had an "S/C Look" option that dressed the car with the wing and vented hood.

One could also delete the deck wing on a factory S/C or Extreme by ordering the vehicle that way.

So yes, most S281 3-Valve Saleen Mustangs do not have the rear wing.

Most S197 Saleen Mustangs were equipped with the side chevron identification decals. In the past, Saleen did delete decals if requested, but I do not recall this during the S197 era.

It is known that the side chevron decals could age and fall off of S197 Saleen Mustangs. Or, it would not be the first time someone removed the decals for their preference. I would also check a vehicle with missing decals for paint repair work or previous damage.

Best wishes on the search!

In addition, the SALEEN lettering (like mine) can be ordered from Saleen. I believe 2004 was the last year for that feature and was resurrected for model year 2008 as a large font. Dave, please chime in and correct (if needed) since that was not mentioned previously

Yes yes. The SALEEN door lettering was eliminated after 2004. This decal/detail made a return on the 2008 S302 Extreme and the revamped version was used in 2009 on S281 S/C, 2009 S302 S/C, and 2009 S302 Extreme models. This is when the door font went large and the chevrons went small.

Side note: The Mollypop 2007 S281 S/C had the door SALEEN lettering from new.

Default Picture of 2006 Saleen with no decals

Hi All,

Below is the link to the car. I think I might wait and look for something for sale closer to Portland, but they are hard to find here.

Most of the 05-06 Saleen's that I see online have the decals

Sandy

Hi Sandy. Looks like someone place a 2005-Present Saleen Mustang horn emblem (found on the steering wheel) on the front fender. This vehicle should have two rectangles emblems stacked. One would say "S281" the other "3-Valve."

Sounds good Sandy! Do not rush your S197 Saleen purchase. There were plenty of vehicles produced in 2005 & 2006. A large selection of pre-owned S281s exist.

In 05 and 06 there was not a sticker (saleen) down the door, but at the end of 06 or beginning 07 Saleen put it on the press car Saleen 2005 #10.

I saw this Saleen on the Bachelor 2/07, and it had it on it then. Never got a real answer when they put it on it but it was the test Saleen for the 07's - 08's to have them.

So 05 -06 may have the saleen added but they did come on them in 07 - 08 they did. But the Saleen chevrons were for sure on all of them....

Sandy, I would examine the vehicle closely to insure it is a real Saleen. Look for an Engine bay plaque and look for the plaque under the passenger side A/C vent. There were only one of those made per car and could not be faked. Engine bay plaques can be faked but is rare. What tips me off is the 3 peice wing installation looks very amateur.

You would be surprised, my 2006 Extreme looked worse than that when i got it, a little tweaking with the trunk adjustment bolts and screws that were a little loose on the actual spoiler piece i managed to straighten it out, but it came that way from the factory.

06281E, Those 3 peice wings were an absolute art to install. Unfortunatley, every one looks different. I Have installed ,literally, hundreds of them it's the first thing I inspect when I walk up to a Saleen. On the other hand the S/C cars had a wing to cover any imperfections so some times those would go out the door a little iffy. But the N/A 3-valves could not be shipped until they were perfect becuase they are so out in the open. But I agree some of those did get shipped kind of funky but mostly the 05 - mid 06's.

Depends what day they were put together i guess! lol. Kidding aside i was just glad that it was an easy adjustment, cleaned up the whole rear of the car and straightened the lines.
