Question Q: Series VI Saleen supercharger rattle?

Hi Guys

I'm new to the forum having just bought a 06 GT.

The car has a saleen supercharger fitted which is making quite a loud rattle on idle. I believe it has been run low on oil sometime in its life. It seems to go away once the car is under load.

Also sounds like the front bearing in the snout is making a noise.
I was wondering if there is a re build kit I can buy from anywhere?

I believe parts for these superchargers are hard to find nowadays as saleen have stopped making them ? I'm actually in the UK so parts parts for these are even more difficult to get hold of unfortunately.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Gary

Hi Gary

Have you checked the oil level?
If it has run out of oil good chance the helical gears are damaged, and I don't believe they are available.
The bearings and seals in the snout are locally available if you need part numbers let me know.

Tony

Hi Tony

Thanks for the reply.
I was told that it was run low on oil last year so a company in the UK changed the gears but could not get hold of any new gears so used some second hand ones out of a wrecked saleen they had.

I've spoke to that guy who replaced the gears he said he changed them which did quieten down the rattle but it still has a little more rattle than usual.

Do you know if the gears are interchangeable between other superchargers at all?

If you have the part numbers for the for the bearings and seals etc that would be great.

Thanks again

Gary

Hi Gary

The unit is a Lysolm which is now owned by Vortech. I tried them for the gears earlier this year but never got a response
The Rotor bearings are;
Quantity 2 front rotor bearings.B17 99o1 17x52x17
The snout bearings and seal are;
Quantity 1 SKF Viton front snout seal. 47 x 30 x 7
Quantity 2 SKF front snout bearing. 47 x 20 x 14 6204 C3

Take the belt off and see if you have any backlash, non should be noticeable.

Hope this helps
Tony

Hi Gary

Those bearings and seals are available from a local bearing distributor, with the rotor bearings the part number will probably be B17 99D you will find they will be about 8 pound each. You have to use a small sharp pick to pop the seals out.
The kit from JB is complete just expensive.
Are you going to do the job yourself?
This video is of Mikes supercharger with bad gears.https://youtu.be/x8JxV1wetto
Go down the list about 12 to Series 6 Needle bearing replacement that was Mikes post
