Q: S281 Rear body trim and tail lamps?
The black rear body trim on my 2006 is starting to fade. I want to have it refreshed at a body shop. The shop can get the center section off with no issues but concerned about trim on tail lamps as they appear to be glued onto the lenses. Any suggestions on how to have tail lamp trim removed without damaging it or the lense?
While I’m at it, I wanted to upgrade tail lights to LED with hopes of avoiding voltage drop signals on the dash. Did anyone replace stock tail lamp assemblies with aftermarket units? Any recommendations? |

They are held on by double sided tape, a bit of heat with hot air gun should ease removal.

Thanks. It appears that on my car the previous owner had epoxied them to the lens. i have a spare set of used tail lamps arriving in few days which I will swap for the existing ones. While I’m there I’d like to upgrade to LED. Any thoughts?

The old Production line used urethane epoxy a lot and seemingly inconsistently. You have to be cautious when removing stuff because of these inconsistencies.

Thank Jason. You raise a good point though. I notice epoxy use around quarter glass exterior trims too. Hopefully the incoming set uses double sided tape.
