Default Houston Coffee & Cars - May 5, 2012

Saleen Friends,
Looks like good weather for the whole weekend so bring out your Saleens before things start getting hot!
For the Houston folks, I'll be heading down to Seabrook this afternoon and making a weekend of the spectacular Keels & Wheels event so I won't be at Coffee & Cars on Saturday morning. If anyone is willing to take the lead, it would be great to gather up the the other C&C participants and head down to the Lakewood Yacht Club to see the best cars and boats in the area on the grounds (and shore) of this beautiful club for the first-ever display of Saleens. I'd appreciate a call to know if somebody is willing to do this (832-687-OHOHOH9).
Here's the info once again about K&W:

Come out and enjoy an historic day in Houston Saleen history as Keels and Wheels Invites some of the finest of the breed to the grounds of the Lakewood Yacht Club this Saturday and Sunday.
On display will be three terrific examples of the early days of production with an 86, an 87 convertible, and an 89 General Tire car.
Below are details to help you make the most of your visit to the show.
--------------------
May 5 & 6, Saturday & Sunday - 17th Annual Keels & Wheels Concours D'Elegance, Seabrook (Houston) http://www.keels-wheels.com/

- Thanks to Craig, we are honored to have the Saleen marque added to this prestigious event for the first time this year. This is an invitation-only event and our favorite local Saleen collector from Pearland is bringing out several of his favorites. Please come down and enjoy the finest collection of rare vehicles and vintage boats at this annual event on the beautiful grounds of the Lakewood Yacht Club. Racing Great Bobby Unser will be this years Grand Marshall. Advance online tickets are $20 and are $30 at the gate. Proceeds go to benefit the Boys and Girls Harbor Charity.
Check out their promo video here: http://youtu.be/tjepxJdvJmg

Regarding the Houston C&C, below is an email from the organizer (apparently if you've tricked out your Saleen to be a 4x4, they'd appreciate it if you wouldn't park on the grass).

Coffee & Cars - Houston
Saturday May 5 - 7am - 10am
Vintage Park at 249 and Louetta
Best time to get there is about 7am and we generally don't roll in together, but rather we meet at a pre-defined meeting spot.
Here's a link to the meeting spot. Google has changed things up a bit, so you may have to click on the link on the left side of the page called Saleen Gathering Spot to see where we all actually park.

It's just first come, first served, so if you come in later, you'll likely have to park away from the group.
Here's a link to pics from one of our last years events:

If you're going to make it, please give me a shout.

Subject: Coffee & Cars Houston Reminder: May

Folks,

Once again we'll be getting together at Vintage Park Saturday morning for Coffee & Cars Houston. For those who were able to make April's get-together, I believe we had more cars than ever before, and if the weather holds out, May will be even bigger. Where else you would go to see the diversity (from an English double-decker bus to a McLaren F-1!) or the number of remarkable vehicles at one location? To those who get up at a ridiculous hour on a day when you could easily sleep in, and drive out to show your pride and joy, we say thank you!

The ONLY places we're allowed to park are in the lots. Not on the grass, not in the fire lanes, and unless you have a handicap placard, not in the handicap spots. Yes, I know the 4X4s all look great out there in the meadow, but we're guests of the shopping center and that means parking where they allow. Do not double park in the through sections of the lots. This creates traffic problems, and safety issues. From now on, we will simply call a wrecker and have the vehicle towed. Sorry. Last month, we witnessed two vehicles parked in by someone who parked in the middle of the lane and walked away. If the drivers of the other cars had needed to leave in an emergency, they would not have been able to do so.

Please be aware of customers trying to get into and out of this venue, specifically the hair salon patrons. This is a crowded area of the site on the one Saturday of the month we're there, and the least we can do is to do our best to respectfully help customers park their cars. Remember, each of these shops is paying rent for us to have our gathering. The least we can do is respond by patronizing the shops and allowing regular customers to do the same.

We have started offering a collection box for those who voluntarily would like to contribute to the expenses of having Coffee & Cars Houston. A few have made comments that C&C is making money by this. Please see me, I'll be most happy to run down what it costs for our HPD officers, required insurance, and trash boxes. We've endeavored to make this a "free" get-together, and have not allowed it to become a commercialized situation. That is why you see no banners or items for sale. If on the other hand, you would like to contribute a few bucks toward our expenses, please locate the collection box.

While the parade of cars leaving our gathering is extraordinary (where else in the area would you see this?), if you need to make a quicker exit, please use the site exits out the back and sides. There's no point sitting 30 minutes overheating your engine and yourself, waiting to get out to Louetta. That said, we have no tolerance for burnouts, either entering and leaving Vintage Park. Folks, this can end our ability to have Coffee & Cars faster than anything else. And that includes not just the site, but also all of the roads leading out of the general area (yes, even the feeder road to 249). Further, once you've left Vintage Park, do not cruise back and forth in front of it. This just adds to the traffic congestion.

We have the opportunity to make our gathering the most amazing one in the country. Each of us who show up month after month have not only a great deal of pride in our machines, but also a great deal of respect for the machines of others. We don't believe that our get-together requires more top-down management, because we as a group have the ability to manage our vehicles and our behavior, something not always seen in other venues or events. We hope you will help us, actually we hope you will help you to show off the uniqueness of Coffee & Cars Houston.

See you Saturday,
Bill
