Improvements to Shaker Hood on PJ
One thing I am a bit dissappointed about is the PJ hood scoop; it does not appear to be very functional. Is there any kit out there that truly lets the hood scoop work? The air box is completely open in the bottom and the air tube from the scoop is very small. Yeah and I dont want to supercharge it and use the supershaker kit. Any ideas, I know you guys must have kicked this around.

Series VI SuperShaker conversion.

OK Dave, but if I go for that conversion, don't you have to place the supercharger on the PJ? I want to keep in naturally aspirated. Love some advise.

You can get rid of the air box and install a CAI for better performance. Initially before I went with the SuperShaker, I installed Long Tube Headers, X-Pipe, CAI and an SCT Tune on the PJ and increased 324HP/317TQ to 360HP/350TQ.

Thank you Bruce, sounds like a very nice improvement in performance.

As fo the airbox issue, I hear you. I'm not crazy about the open-bottom box either and have looked at other CAI systems. My challenge has been how to keep the shaker at least somewhat functional like it is now while using an aftermarket CAI. I even purchased a stock airbox to use in case I come up with something. If you come up with anything, let us know!

When I had a CAI we cut a hole in the side of the bracket and ran the original Shaker outlet to it and it worked fine. Air came from the Shake through the CAI Bracket to right under the CAI filter.

Bruce, remind us again which CAI you installed on your PJ before the Super Shaker?

Improvements to Shaker Hood on PJ
I was very dissappointed that the hood scoop really does not function! Just a small side pipe that enters an air box that has no bottom. Has anyone toyed with a closed air box bottom and a change to the do nothing side tube from the hood scoop.
No do not want to go to a supercharger with a super shaker, the PJ is a naturally aspirated motor and would like to keep it that way. Someone must have fooled around here, you guys seem pretty ingenious. |

There's not really any way to do it without the supercharger, or somehow developing a custom manifold with a custom air filter etc. Because even if you angled it, the air still needs to be filtered and to go directly into the intake it would have to make a crazy bend that would not be at all optimal.
The reason the air box has no bottom is so the air can breath better and not collapse the box under vacuum, but the shaker IS functional, its just really a large improvement. |

I've seen pictures of someone that has the shaker feed direct onto intake tube, before the sensor, excluding the airbox completely.
Just can't remember which forum it was.

The air line is 3" to the box. Dumps right on the filter. C&L has since updated the heat shield to a rounder one (see his link) but you still have to cut the access hole. Then add a 3" coupler to get it into the box. It works great. You may have to adjust your tune for the added air. I am unfamiliar with the PJ's tune but a normal GT requires it. Hope this helps...

Do the Super Shaker upgrade. Crazy Power increase. For the PJ Super Shaker upgrades Saleen will serialize it to keep it an official PJ.

I was considering doing this, but after driving the car for a while, I really like the power the stock engine puts out. This supercharger mod adds less than 100hp??

I was at 360HP / 350TQ before the SS and afterwards with a custom tune and new fuel system it was 483HP / 464TQ at rear wheels. And it far from maxed out.

That sounds better and would be worth doing for those results if I didnt like the current performance so much.
