Question Q: Dash emblem color?

Hey everyone, I understand that the "Saleen Mustang" dash emblems came in all chrome and some had "Saleen" in black and "Mustang" in chrome. Is it possible to find out which one was originally installed on the car? I was going to replace the one on my 88, it currently has the black/chrome and I want to make sure that's correct.
Thanks!

Hi and welcome.

I believe the original 1985-88 Saleen Mustang dash emblems were diecast with the "Saleen" being black and the "Mustang" being polished for production cars.

Then... a 1985-88 Saleen Mustang replacement emblem was created that was diecast and both "Saleen" and "Mustang" were polished.

After that... a 1985-88 Saleen Mustang replacement emblem was created that was black composite / plastic with both "Saleen" and "Mustang" in chrome veneer.

There are three different 1985-88 dash emblems in circulation.

Basically echo what Dave said below but I believe the switch date might have been early 86 as I found what I assume to be an original in 86-13 under the carpet during restoration that was the polished and black variety. But who knows, just an assumption and we all know what those are worth! ha

Ok, but most likely the original was the Die-cast with the "Saleen" in black. I guess I have the correct one. I had figured the Saleen was in black due to 30 years of wear :)

Thanks Dave!
