First problem with my saleen! thinks its my fuel pump
alright guys got a problem, my saleen is NA by the way
and the other day i was driving around no problems and all of sudden my car had no power under load. i was little worried and got it home and didnt pay to much attention the symptoms. i let it cool down and start it up and no problem and drive it around the little lot. as of this morning i drive home starts no problem, my drive was about 10 miles and as im getting closer to home i again have no power under load. the car idles just fine, and will go if take it pretty slow, but upon any load and i kind of got on it to see how it would react and it lost all power and the car just rolled, i back out of the gas and just take it slow and as i got into my driveway i could here my fuel pump screaming and 2 weeks prior i heard it also screaming at a high pitched sound but had no problems also note the previous owner has a 255lph walboro installed. i believe it was walboro, i may be mistaken but i know it was a 255lph and i was looking around and some pumps are stamped walboro and have a diffrent brands internals which tend to fail so im leaning torwards my pump. also not i have changed my fuel filter, and plugs and also cleaned my maf in the last 7 months ive owned it thanks

If you open your fuel cap and you can hear a loud squealing noise then your pump is on it's way out. If you can hear is squealing outside standing next to the car then your pump is on it's way out. Normal pumps are quiet.
If you have or can get a pressure gauge, put it on the fuel rail Schrader valve to see what kind of pressures that you are getting.

You will be able to hear the pump no matter what, especially if it is a larger pump (brand does not really matter, Walbro makes the pumps for pretty much all OEM replacement companies), but it definitely sounds like a pump issue to me.
If it is screaming, not just a soft "buzzzzzz" when the key is first on, then it is definitely about shot. I can walk you through the swap, if needed. |

I didn't mean that it would be silent just not a screaming/squealing noise. A buzzing like noise is a normal pump when first key on to prime the system and then when running.
Either way it sounds like a pump going bad. Make sure you change the filter and possibly the rubber gasket that the filler neck goes into.

Funny, I got my 2000 in Nashville, too. Small world. I am in Knoxville now... too bad this didn't happen back when I was living in Nashville, I would pitch in a hand. Shelbyville (a.k.a. Shelbvul) isn't but a hop, skip, and jump away from Nashville... save a hop or skip in a supercharged Mustang. lol ). Ironically, I just finished dropping the tank in my '98 and taking the pump out earlier today, to drain the old fuel. Those barbs should be easily replaced. Go to your local auto parts store and buy a decent set of vacuum splices. One of them should work. Where are you at on it right now? Have you pulled the pump assembly yet? |

I heard that- my Ariats came from the boot store in the Mills, and I have about four or five pair of Oakleys from the Vault. Anyhow, sounds like you know what you are doing- let me know if you get stuck, but the swap out is pretty simple. You made a good point about the filler neck gasket... $25 worth of peace of mind... and they do always go bad. Also don't forget to slap on some more dielectric grease to the electrical connections when you put everything back together. If you want more fuel volume out of your pump, get one for a Lincoln Aviator. I have one in mine... does not need retuning or anything. More flow than the standard 255# upgrade and is a direct replacement. Good luck, and happy wrenching! |

Yes the filler neck gasket is good to replace. I have taken my tank out about five times for my conversion and I told myslef I was going replace it when I did it the last time I dropped the tank. Well the last time I dropped it I didnt replace it since I thought I would have to do it again. I fixed the problem but never took it back down to replace the filler neck gasket so now when I top off my tank it leaks all over the place.
