From my understanding the original 02-0001 S281 Extreme was damaged (destroyed) beyond repair in 2002. Saleen rebuilt #01 using a new Mustang GT convertible. At this time 2003 Saleen production seating replaced the original Saleen/Recaro interior. This vehicle was given as debt payment to a supplier.

02-0002 was damaged and stripped, but the nearly destroyed shell still exists.

Both #01 & #02 were built off of Mustangs that were originally earlier than 2002 models.

Depends on the condition of the vehicle after it's job in 2F2F. They went through a few "Saleen Mustangs" for that one, small scene.

Default 03-0002

I own 03-0002, which was Steve's personal daily driver. It is Speedlab/S7 Yellow with the Speedster package - Recaro seats. As you can imagine, she is a garage/trailer queen with only 24XXX miles on her thus far. 100% stock at this point - keeping her value up.

04-155 has been confirmed as not being a real extreme. I have the car info and spoke with Saleen and it is NOT a real extreme. Let me know if you need the VIN/bumper # to verify yourself.

I'd like to add one to the list. 03 - #14 convertible. White with light bar, silver graphics and silver wheels originally. I sold it years ago to a guy in Utah and last I saw it was in New Mexico for sale by a different guy. Also that beryllium 02 #07 I believe is still in NC.

You can add my car, 03-0002. It is the Speedlab Yellow Vert Speedster. FYI, 03-0001 went to a car collector, so Steve took 03-0002 as his personal auto. When my car was built, the car number of 0002 for Steve was not given to the engine group, so the plaque on my firewall actually says 03-0001, however it reflects 03-0002 everywhere else. I also have the original 03-0002 firewall plaque, just not installed. I am keeping this car all original, just as it was with Steve and Liz cruising the PCH....

My 2003 Extreme convertible holds a special place in my heart and to Saleen history. It's the final '03 Extreme made, car #27, a Lizstick red Speedster with chrome wheels.

What is unique besides the December 2003 build date and January 2004 delivery at the plant to one of Steve's executives who worked for the firm that raised capital for the Saleen organization is this:

The car was built with the SA-20 introduced, 2004 speedster tonneau cover and the 2004 two tone grey/dark grey seats. Window sticker shows MSRP at over $76,000. Quite a chunk of change back then.

I am the second owner of this car, and the mileage is 9806. The car is BONE STOCK. Down to the original tires and valve stems. Still smells new. New modifications besides....ownership! It's an "M and M: car: maximum originality and minimal miles.

It's neat to read the documents in the glovebox. One is a letter saying "congratulations on purchasing the highest performing production Mustang in the world." (They couldn't say that now....) and......a letter regarding the chatter or "dieseling" of the motor due to the forged internals.

My birthday is the 27th, so car 27 is neat to have. The car sits inside my house, several feet away from the last S351 made (car #49, a silver speedster, 7406 miles) and the last Mustang SVO made (red, three miles, leather, unprepped.)

I know you must be asking yourself....how does the S281 Extreme with 445 hp compare to the Beastly 495 hp S351? The Extreme is easier to drive and more refined. The S351 makes small children run to their mothers because of the loudness. Yes, the S351 is more rorty, a real bastard in its own right. But, make no mistake, the New Edge Extremes are just that:

Extremely rare, extremely fast, and when new, extremely expensive. It WAS the ultimate Mustang made between 2002-2004. People tend to lose track of that.

Unless they own one!

Regards, Gerry, owner of 20 cars, including 4 SVO's, 4 Saleens, 2 Porsches, and 7 Dodges. Oh, and an SVT Focus as a daily driver....

I haven't been on here for a while, but 02-07 Beryllium, known as the Beryllium Beast, is here in NC. I bought it from Brian Black in 2008. It only has 23,000 miles.

2002-60 was totaled by a mechanic test driving it. It's my understanding that 2002-01 was totaled by Shawn Saleen. Seems like I heard they rebuilt it but I'm not sure of the whole story.

I actually have that info included, but it exceeded the amount of "characters" I could copy and paste so I left the damaged cars out on this...

Pictured is the 02-0001E Beryllium convertible... the second one.

Folklore once stated the original pre-production 02-0001E was damaged. This first car had leather Recaros, pony fender emblems and S351 rear wing.

Lore stated car was rebuilt with a few production changes. One being charcoal 2003 model year Saleen seating. The vehicle left Saleen Performance as partial payment for services rendered.

The Speedlab Yellow photography car is 03-0002E with 2004 Speedster package. This car also had the 1999-02 leather Saleen/Recaro interior.

Three interesting things regarding 03-0013E.

1: Car always had leather Saleen/Recaro seating.

2: Car may have the Premium Ford interior option. Only part remaining after convertion is the silver color center dash trim and metal finish shift boot trim.

3: Car lost its Extreme vented hood years ago. Car was repaired using a standard Saleen vented hood.

3b: I can remember seeing this car live on eBay back in 2003, 2004, 2005. The original dealer could not rid themselves of this car. I would sit in the university library... kill time searching Saleen Mustangs... and chat with Jim. True story.

If memory serves correct. The rear photograph is one of the original dealer images.

Shame, that is a beautiful car and probably the only one this color... I called about this car once and they said it was a speedster, so cover. Not sure it came that way.

I know there was a Berylium 281E coupe in Albuquerque for a while about ten years or so (it was always out and about) I wonder which one it was.

Saw this thread and thought I'd post some pics. Black on Charcoal...Recaros, Alcons and all else that is stock on an E. All Original. Just a tad over 24K miles. Runs great. Just had the center pod gauges worked on, apparently they were not grounded correctly, but now work fine. Added the staggered black replica wheels about a week ago wrapped in Bridgestone's.

Default Replicas

No, the replicas were put on just recently. It came with the Chromes, 10inch rear upgrade. Everything is stock except I believe the previous owner changed the intercooler, and I put the replicas on and I changed the shift knob to a Cobra T-56 knob. Oh and the calipers f/r are painted red. Wanted to ask does anyone know the true paint code for this car. It's either the Ford UA or Saleen's Black Metallic. But I don't know if this one got the paint job. Thinking about having the passenger side skirt repainted.

The Saleen Book only states that it had Speedster, Chromes, and black top.

The extremes came with 10" wheels so I don't think it wouldn't list as an option. The Saleen calipers where the same color regardless of the car, at least in my experince. Perhaps someone has had theirs redone and can tell you the original color.

Saleen can tell you the original options. With the info above, it appears this vehicle is factory Ford black.
