Anybody notice a little clutch smell when breaking in the new clutch? I have been easy on it and it seems that when I do a slow start easing out the clutch I get a whif of burnt clutch. Not bad, but never got it from stocker.

Josh,

A small amount of smell is normal at first. But from your statement, it sounds like your not used to using a twin disc. Give me a call and ill walk you through "how to drive with a twin disc". Most people use them incorrectly.

Sorry guys for bringing a thread back from the dead, but...

I am experiencing the samething as 06281E, Extrmstang#67, Tbar, and Crucianpilot.
I haven't fully broken it in yet and I have not been hard on it at all. I have not even rev'd it above 4500 RPM yet.
3rd and 4th between 1600 and 2000 RPM there is a rattle type sound like the car is about to stall. Anything above 2000 RPM never a noise.

Just wondering how all yours are working now? Still any issue's or all good now?

Its a very minor chatter, its normal on twin disk clutches from what I've heard. It works really well, Ill test is holding power with the turbo soon.

I have taken the guys at The Mustang Shop in Auburn, Wa for a ride and asked them to focus on the vibrations and noise at low RPMs. One of the employees, and a driver of a twin disc himself, stated that his car with the same assembly has the same characteristics.
I have gotten used to it by managing the RPMs.
Concerning the chattering as you let the clutch out in 1st, I am still experiencing this when I get lazy and or the car is cold. I am going to start asking questions about shimming ßMY assumption) when I have the money set aside to do work on the car.
Now, my experience on the track is great, so great in fact that I did not have to worry about it while doing sessions and it was not something in the back of my head and or something I had to keep track of. As a general note, if you are in low RPMs on the track then your short shifting, but I can understand if someone wants to use low end torque and that may happen on only a few tracks and one turn on those tracks. I also experienced the clutch grabbing too well when making basic mistakes matching RPMs. Ultimately I am happy and looking forward to the fine-tuned shimming to solve the slight chatter.
I have to say that if and when the chattering happens it might make an audience wonder what is going on.

when I had my 06 saleen I had the mcleod clutch installed. The first 500 miles or so I felt like I had to learn all over again how to drive a clutch. After that very minor chatter going forward but I would still feel the chatter in reverse..

Everyone here is getting the same vibration in low RPM, supposedly it's just due to the dual clutch disk operation..

Davesike- What clutch are you running? See the problem is you have to pick the lesser of 2 evils, the McLeod is my second clutch on this Extreme, first one was a center force DFX with flywheel and it lasted a whopping 7k miles and had so much clutch pedal pressure i thought i needed a new knee when i was done with it. The McLeod is soft as butter and holds 1000hp, can't beat that even with a little vibration at low RPM. IMO still the best clutch for our cars out there, but i have heard there are new twin disk options on the market now.

Mine only does it in 2nd. Other than that I have no complaints. I find it lighter than the stock clutch.

My RST was noisy as well, and I also had a dragging issue on two seperate RST both with the McLeod FW. Switched it out several weeks back for a Mach 500 and the noise and dragging is gone. Pedal feel is a little heavier than stock, but I'll trade that any day for a properly functioning clutch. Three weeks the clutch is awesome and shifting is smooth as butter. My experience with the RST was not a good one. Good luck.

I don't know how your stock is holding at that power level. I have similiar mechanical mods, and mine was slipping at the 3.4 and really went south with the 3.2.

I have the same experience at low RPM/ no load, or if I am lazy. The clutch is much better than the stock and only occasionaly hangs up (which I believe is a manufacturing issue like Tbrocks, just not as bad). Other than that I need a stickier belt as the clutch will grab like hell, and the belt will chirp if I am trying to shift it hard and fast.

Well this is all not good news. Its more annoying then anything. Drive by and all you hear is chatter. WTF! lol
I hope mine goes away after the break in period. If not. Something has to be done. Because city driving, I don't wanna be rev'ing high nor do I want people to hear the chatter.

It also depends a lot on how you drive the car.. Also nothing lasts with over 500hp so you can bet that a new clutch is always in our futures.lol
