Default Recommendation: Brake Caliper Paint?

Has anyone painted their brake calipers? If so what do you recommend, G2 paint? How long is the life expectancy of the paint (before it cracks and chips). I was thinking about painting mine red. Post pics if you got em, thanks

Hi temp spray and then hi temp clear. I just did a set of Cobra fronts in silver with blue "Cobra". My GT brakes are silver with blue ebay Saleen decals stuck on and then cleared over. No chips in over a year. My Contour SVT had painted calipers the same way. I would tape them off and touch them up once every year or two. I'll get some pics.

Nice, the blue ebay saleen decals can handle the high temperatures ok?

Yeah, I just pulled these off today. I put 13" rotors and Cobra brakes on it. I painted the Cobra's the same color to match the rears.

Looks good, I just ordered the Saleen decals and red brake caliper paint. How long have those saleen decals been on those calipers?

About a year, you can tell by the paint that cooked on the back of the pad...I may have gotten them warm a time or two! I let the paint dry real well and stuck the sticker on..then several coats of hi temp clear to seal them in.

The Cobras I did Saturday. I'm getting the rims repainted, as I need tires this season.

I finally got a nice day to paint the calipers. I used a Dulpi-Color brake caliper paint kit from AM. 4 coats did the job

I did the G2 paint and didn't care for it. Its very very thick stuff and doesn't spread evenly or easily at all. Very hard to get a nice smooth and even coat. I gave up and sent in all four calipers to be powder coated. Can't wait to get them back.

I'm glad I went with dupli-color then, wasn't thick at all.. went on nice...but I will say the brush they give you is garbage, use a better one. Now just have to wait and see how well it holds up. Do you have any pics of your painted calipers?

Ive used G2 many times and recommend it.
It congeals as it dries and all your brush stroke marks disappear.
I got the decal overlay (normally the part they weed out) then sprayed
high temp paint and removed the overlay so now the pony is in paint.

Here I did my wifes car:

Duplicolor. Bought a can red and mixed in some black to get the color to match the car.

Heres a close up. There was a little surface rust on the edges of the rotors so i painted tham with the black duplicolor spray can at the same time as the caliper bracket. Taping was a pain and so was the prep but it was well worth it. 2 years and they are still in great shape. (the pics were taken when i first painted them)

EDIT: Once i drove the car the paint lines on the rotor face got cleaned up by the pads.

Do you mind if I ask what powder coating them is going to cost you?

Hey Ghost, will you post a photo of a side shot of your car. I'd like to see how the red calipers look against the color of your car. Thanks!

$300 to powder coat all 4 calipers, which includes complete dissasembly/reassembly of the calipers before/after powder coating.

Default Brembo or Saleen

You guys think it would look bad if Brembo went on the car, instead of Saleen? Do you think people would react differently to the car?

Not at all. most people go with an after market if they didnt get the brake upgrade. Brembo, Baer, both great companies.

People wont look at the car different. Most of these brakes you see on here are just stock GT brakes with a decal on them. Aftermarket Brembo will be way better.

the 2000 cobra R brembo brake set that american muscle sells is the exact same thing that was used with the saleen upgrade. the ONLY difference was the yellow saleen sticker where they say brembo. the kit is only 1200 too

Hey guys sorry to jump into the brake convo but I'm new saleen owner and new to the site. I was wondering for the guys that used the dupli-color and added the saleen brake caliper stickers if they painted over them with a high temp clear? If so, where would i get some high-temp clear? I ordered some red dupli-color and saleen brake caliper stickers last week so hopefully this weekend I'll get to my brakes looking good like y'alls. Thanks for any help.

Ghoststalker27, Where did you get your caliper stickers from? Also, i noticed you changed out the horse logo on the fenders to the S281 fender decals. Was that easy to replace? My car is an 01 also so i was thinking of doing that mod.

Decals Here:
http://www.xenonmods.com/newallcaliperdecals.htm

The Fender Badge is easy to replace. Get some fishing line, your wife/mother/daughter/girlfriends/your hair dryer, and some goo be gone(or something similiar). Heat up the horse, use the fishing line and slowly work behind it to get the adhesive to come loose. Remember there is a peg sticking out the back of the horse emblem into the car so go around that. Once you remove the horse emblem use the goo be gone to clean it up (clean it real good you want your new emblem to stick). Once you get everything the way you like, set the new emblem in place and use dryer to heat it up to get a better stick.

Just so you know Saleen has fender badge problem at the moment and by that I mean the passenger side emblem has a mirrored S logo. They don't know when they will have new ones.

It looks just fine to have the brembo brakes with the saleen setup. One of the most necessary upgrades I've done. I can't believe cars with this much power came with stock brakes....

PS-ignore the dirt on the car. my neighborhood was being built at the time.
