s331 sc noise
Hello everyone! I just recently purchased my first Saleen 5 days ago and im a little concerned about a grinding noise that I think is coming ftom the supercharger. When I first looked at the truck I figured it was one of the idler pulleys or something so I bring it home change the passenger side idler and it continued to make the noise. So I then changed the tensioner and tensioner pulley still doing it. So then I started getting worried thinking it is the blower so I checked the sc pulley by hand there doesn't seem to be any forward or backward movement nor side to side movement it spins freely as well. Then I started reading on forums that the series VI blowers make a grinding, clunking noise when new and its from what I understand normal. But my truck has 70k and is making this grinding noise like a bearing is going out. So my question is has anyone had this same problem or know if it is normal for a vehicle with 70k to me making this noise? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you I called JDM and spoke with jim. He said that the blower probley could use a rebuild but it will more than likely be fine for a little while longer.

If your going to ship it off to get rebuilt, try troyer performance and get there "snakebite" done to it!

Ok cool. I called jdm and they told me to send it to PSE superchargers in okc. Has anyone ever had anywork done by them? What does the snakebite consist of? port and polish job or what?

FYI ~
My understanding of the Saleen Series VI super charger is that there can be some 'rotor clash' when cold but should quiet down at operating temperature...this is considered normal. Your truck does have 70K on it though. Hope this helps. |

It constantly makes a grinding noise. It sounds like a bearing to me ill just have it redone now before something really bad happens. Im new to forced induction so Ide rather be safe than sorry

I am sure this is a no brainer and you have done this already, but make sure to check the blower fluid level. I have read numerous posts and heard of these blowers running dry and destroying the gears.
Mine was about 4oz. low when I heard about this and filled it back up. |

I have not checked it yet I will be pulling my pcm out this week and sending it to Saleen. While its out I am going to change the sc oil And a few other things while the truck is down. Thanks for the heads up tho. Do these things have a problem with leaking oil?

How do you check the oil in the super charger ?

From what I understang you have to remove the air intake tube, the coolant crossover then right below the crossover is a allen head bolt remove it and the oil should come up to the bottom thread on the blower housing

so I have checked it several times and by far the easiest way is to undo the serpentine belt and loosen the alternator bolts and set the alternator to the side.
You can then access the allen head bolt at the right base of the supercharger. It is a visual type of check to see if it is full. I just add fluid until I see it at the top. Take note that there is a very small O ring on the allen bolt that is very fragile. I had to replace mine. |
